Owner description: This handicraft village is a great place to shop for traditional Chilean arts and crafts and one of the few places you might be able to bargain in Santiago.

I am sure there are better deals to be had (the street markets at Valparaiso were good) but this was clean, lots of choices, some really unique things and a very pleasant experience. So if you want to get in and get out.....this is a great choice! The textiles were very interesting, some very unique.

If you looking for a old charm and have a couple of hours in Santiago I highly recommend this market which is rather a small village with old feeling and very nice handcraft - local artists not Chinese import
We spent there 6 hours walking through the street and enjoying view of the mountain

Twice when visiting Santiago, I went to Los Domenicos. Both times, I was out of there within 15 minutes and wondering why I wasted my time. I think the better place for souvenirs and handicrafts is Cerro Santa Lucia - easier to wander through, much better selection, better bargaining...and a terrific food place offering fresh hot Nutella crepes. I really don't get why people like Los Domenicos, it doesn't strike me as even remotely a handicraft village - rather I think it's just shops with over-priced things and the "MasterCard" "Visa" stickers in every window. Yes, it's kind of cutesy but I think it's a tourist trap. But, if you are determined to visit, the metro stop is "Los Domenicos", leave the metro and walk toward the church, it's to the right of the church.

Chilean aristocracy at the best, I'am a traveler and the home family is about 200 mts of the markets, daugthers and sons of the rich and famous become artisans of course they take Visa and Mastercards and speak languages sure they attend expensive private schools if you look closely this are Chileans with blue eyes and blonde hair, what you read on travellers books is not very accurate, yes your artisans drive BMW and Mercedes after they close shop, you want to believed they are the real thing, good luck, is a complety set up, out of bitterness nop reality sucks sometimes, but someone *have to* tell the truth is ugly but this the idea reality and this forum give us the chance to tell between real or unreal every single comment on this market says * is expensive* what do you expect to pay from a an artisan who lives in a million dollar house in one of the top neighbourly barrios of Chile. Welcome to ugly reality.

Great place to visit for Chilean crafts in a very pleasant atmosphere. Some guide books say to take the metro, line one, to the 'escuela militar' stop. That was the case until recently, when the metro expansion was completed. There is now a stop 'los dominicos' which makes it very easy. A very nice and relaxed way to spend an afternoon.
