Owner description: Tour the eclectic architecture of this home which served as the romantic hideaway for famed poet Pablo Neruda and his wife Matilde, as portrayed in the 1995 film "Il Postino."

The architecture and design of Pablo Neruda's home is stunning. We loved his art collections and how fabulous his wife continued to restore the house after the vandals.

interesting "nest" of hodgepodge rooms…unremarkable from outside but very creative use of space and furniture and natrual elements brought into play…lots of skinny stairs if that's a problem for some viewers…my daughter and I loved "la Chascona" name…she has wild curly red hair!!!

The house is a wonderful jumble of buildings, levels, rooms and furnishings; clearly Neruda was a man of extraordinary taste. What makes the house special though are the paintings and pictures, each with a personal connection to the poet. His widow did the world a wonderful service in restoring it after it was trashed.

The way Pablo Nerruda built this house is unique. You can see his collections of things he brought from all over the world as well some prizes he won, including the nobel prize. The audio guide tour has good information about the house and Nerruda life.

It is a unique opportunity to feel how proud Chile is of his great poet and his connection with the politics of his time.

The surrouding streets are worth to spend some time around.

Very interesting. Would not let us take pictures even with our iphones. Was kind've weird, but definitely worth a visit.
