“Funny and interesting”
Reviewed March 1, 2013 via mobile

This was the best attraction I've seen in Santiago - thanks to the friendly and well informed guide - for an English speaking tour ask for Francisco ;-) he knows every nook and cranny... Interesting details about an interesting person - worth to see even if you've never read a line from Neruda...
Anyway the location on the map in not really correct - the Tripadvisor puts the place somewhere in Los Angeles (?)

“Impressing”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

Visiting this great latin american-poet's home turns out as one of the most interesting experiences for a tourist in Santiago. Even if you're not particularly interested in Pablo Neruda's liteture you might be amazed by the very original architecture while you learn a bit about him. Guides are very informative and helpful.

“One of the top sights in Santiago”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

Make sure to call in advance for a reservation and do this tour (you can reserve an English or Spanish-speaking tour). The tours run for about an hour and take you through the entire property; you'll learn a lot about Neruda and his mistress (later wife) Mathilda but you'll also learn a huge amount about recent Chilean history. The Bellavista neighborhood is terrific for lunch. A must-see in Santiago.

“Interesting but not "authentic"”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

We're glad we saw the Chascona, but -- frankly -- it could be missed. Tickets were expensive. The guided tour in English was good. But we learned that much or the house and almost all its furnishings were not dated to Neruda's time in the house. Not his fault, but the Pinochet coup "groupies" cleaned out and wrecked the house a few days after Allende was overthrown, because they suspected (they found nothing, apparently) that the Communist Neruda -- as Stalinist as admitted the guide -- had hid weapons in the house. As historical houses go, this has less going for it than many, though it's still an interesting house. And the furnishings did belong in the main to Neruda, but just came from other houses. For a Communist, Neruda had about as many houses as McCain and Romney.
