Owner description: This cultural city neighborhood is rich with artists, entertainers and some of chile's best ethnic and local cuisine.

From what I could tell, Bellavista was historically bohemian yes, but it has long-since been found. Still certainly a must see as to get a full appreciation of Santiago de Chile but don't get your hopes up; The hipsters are probably pioneering some other neighborhood.

There is much variety as to the offering of the type of food or beverage. Frequented by young people or young people at heart.
Beer is popular which feels odd in a country that dedicates so much attention to the production of wine. There is contrast in the art, the fashion and the settings. All kinds of music can be heard.
Great informal setting.

Nine years ago, before becoming such a big tourist attraction, this Santiago barrio was a quiet, rather Bohemian locale with some good restaurants, lots of bars spilling onto the street, filled mostly with students from the nearby University of Chile Law School. Now the Patio Bellavista has become a big tourist attraction, with lots of chi chi restaurants, bars, high-priced galleries. It can be interesting, if you like that sort of thing, and I still go to eat at a couple of the restaurants where Santiago "cuisine" has really improved. But watch your wallet, as wherever tourists congregate, so do pick pockets. I lost a wallet there that was in a fanny pack, worn for 5 minutes at the back--it should have been in front! But I had just come from a restaurant. This area is also full of discoteques--a good place to party if you are young and not stupid.

It is an old neighborhood, today full of restaurants and pubs, very lively, but consider the following: I do not recomend going there after 11pm, because it could get dangerous (street fights, etc., because of young people who drink too much).
However, there are several very good restaurants, worth going to. Also visit Patio Bellavista, which has little stores with typical chilean things, silver jewelry, pubs and restaurants. I would say, the main street for good restaurants is Constitucion.

Bellavista has some of the best places to party, eat great food, and listen to live music.

Make sure you go to Chilango to get some amazing Mexican food, which is VERY hard to find in Chile.

Best place to see live Jazz in all of Chile, Thelonious Lugar de Jazz on Bombero Ñuñez.

Onaciu is the best bar around with good music and drinks!
