Owner description: The climb up this natural 230 foot hill offers a worthy reward: breathtaking panoramic views of the city.

Be careful, the steps are quite dangerous! The view at the top on the day we went was very hazy with smog, so it was difficult to see the mountains, but you do get the sence of how close they are to the city, would be lovely on a clear day.The area surrounding is very interesting for walking.

Climbing up the hill can be a bit strenuous and you have to watch your footing as earthquakes have moved or cracked some of the stone steps. You also have to watch out for the ubiquitous street dogs that sometimes lie on the steps. They are harmless, well fed but sometimes you have to step over them. The very top has great views of the city and the Andes.

Our hotel was very close to Santa Lucia, and once I saw the hill through the windows I know I have to visit this place. We went there in the morning, the place is free but there was a security guard asking for just a little information (where are you from, number of visitors etc.). The walk is very enjoyable with fabulous views, though you should be careful as there are lots of stairs and some of them can be slippery. The place offers a lot of photo taking opportunities with different structures as well. Once you reached the top, you would be able to get a good view of the most vibrant part of Santiago! Also got a Mote con huesillo (local beverage with a dried peach) there from the vendor and it was quite a nice add on apart from the views, but realized later on that you can have one on the streets for half the price.

We spent a couple of hours strolling, relaxing and sitting in the picturesque gardens and italianate buildings of Cerro Santa Lucia after a morning of sightseeing in central Santiago - it was just a short walk away, and with great views of the city from the top of the hill. I understand that it used to have a reputation for having a security problem, but this now appears to have been completely resolved, and it is a lovely safe-feeling area.

Me and some fiends climbed this mountain and not only are the stairs small but they are also wet and slick! The view is gorgeous though
