Santiago is not my kind of town. I spent half a day walking in the city center trying my best to find at least somethig to take a picture of. Almost in vain. Santa Lucia hill with its garden and view points is an oasis in this desert! From the top of it even ugly colorless buildings of Santiago look kind of stylish. I can't say it's something you should visit especially, but if you happen to be in Chile's capital with some free time and hunger for sightseeing this place is a good option

It's a good place to have a perspective of the city, especially the downtown neighborhood. Besides this, is very pleasant, with trees and a cafe.

A quiet, peaceful walk up the meandering streets to the top for a wonderful view of Santiago looking off to the south. There are plaques and statues along the way (in Spanish) to keep you informed. Keep in mind the original constructions are 400 years old and have been repaired in a few places but it will give an idea as to what happenned when the local native tribes attempted to attack the Spaniards so many years ago and why they had no success in doing so.

I saw the cerro everyday but it rained when we were there. Right across the road from the cerro is the souvenir market. Mainly local goods, such as woolens from Bolivia (scarves, jumpers etc), jewelry (lapis lazuli, coral, copper etc), and heaps of other random stuff, like bags, shoes - general souvenir stuff. Good place for cheap souvenirs and gifts. Open 10am but if it's wet most stall seem to open up later, after midday.

They don't really haggle, we tried but if you buy a lot from the one place they'll drop the price. Plus many drop the price for paying in cash. Some places are desperate to make a sale they drop the price even if you are just looking to get you to buy. It's good if you want the stuff. Worth a visit.

We did all our gift shopping here and good stuff can be found if you take time and look at it closely.

There is also an empanda place and crepe/juice bar for a re-fuel. There is more eating options down the main road as well.

Just next to the Santa Lucia metro station, exit San Isidro side, turn left when you get out of the stairs and follow the main road and you will see the market entry on the corner. Worth a stop if you need that kind of stuff.

The park looked really pretty too, massive entry but like i said it was raining so we never went in.
