One of the most imposing cathedrals in Sth America. Brilliant architecture with beautiful internal domes that are painted and allow the sun in to give a stained glass look.

This cathedral is quite big, has the main nave and two side chapels, dozens of statues / monuments (particularly those for the Virgin Mary, Saint Theresa of the Andes, Saint (Fr.) Hurtado, and the Chilean War Martyrs' one). Even if you're not Roman Catholic, you may come in to admire the stained glass work at the ceilings and side windows, and have a breather. The place is packed with history, but most nuances will be lost in the translation unless you're very interested in Chilean religious history.

A splendid cathedral withi mpressive main area with many side chapels, so much marble and a lot of gold. Needs some renovation but for an operating church up with the cathedrals of Europe

Not much different from most Spanish cathedrals. On the Plaza de Armas which attracts pickpockets.

We attended Sunday mass at the Cathedral. The atmosphere was friendly. It was freezing but we did feel at ease and welcomed by the congregation. After the mass we got the chance to look around. It's pretty impressive with many side chapels, so much marble and a lot of gold. My apologies - I do not specifically know the name of the side chapel with all the silver. Just know it was Wow!
