We took the funicular up to the top of the hill just before sunset. The views of the city and the Andes can't be beat. We highly recommend a visit to the top of the hill.

This is a must see thing to do when in Santiago. Choose a sunny day if you can as there is a layer of Smog to see through to see the city. We went on a Monday afternoon. Hardly any queues for the funicular or cable car. There are cafes at the top of the funicular. Then another climb to the statue. There are lots of steps to sit on at the top. Great view of the Andes as well as the city.

Second only to the experience at Christ the Redeemer on the Corcovado hilltop in Rio (which was a little over a month later), it was really "pretty awesome" to be on this hilltop with a big statue of the Virgin (with also a little chapel "right under" it to go inside) & a "fairly spectacular" view of the city below (like a "semicircular view" with mainly in just one direction but still with really "quite a bit of the city" to see); and apart from the statue on this hilltop (but a little below the statue itself) are also: a display of the Nativity scene (with "life-sized" sculptures of humans & animals) in a shelter to see from outside, a small lovely church (with like a charming facade) where inside are also some sizeable "carving scenes" on the walls, a ramp with some crosses alongside featuring colorful art scenes on them (and actually a pretty nice view of Sky Costanera from that ramp), and a beautiful slope with like small green terraces & a stone stairway in the middle (which leads to the Virgin statue at just about a 5-minute walk on the "very top" of the hill).

After about a 20-minute walk heading west from Sky Costanera by crossing the river then going through a neighborhood with some nice houses, I came up by cable car for about a 15-minute ride from Oasis Station and took the funicular on the way down for about a 10-minute ride from the station just a bit further downhill from the one arriving by cable car (which is at about a 5-minute walk below the Virgin statue). And yes, being a "popular recreational" hill, there's a big swimming pool that I saw below while coming up by cable car (actually at just the next station from Oasis Station), and there's a zoo on the side of the hill where the funicular goes (with may be a station along the way for access to the zoo), and there's the "nice lively" neighborhood Barrio Bellavista just outside the bottom funicular station (where I went through the street lined with restaurants & their umbrellas on the sidewalk in front on my way to the river after coming down the hill).

Known as one of the "most do's" in Santiago we went to this hill and we took the funiculaire up the hill. There was a huge queue. We had to wait for one hour. Views are great and we walked around we a bit. Renovations are required. Avoid Sundays, I think.

I stopped off here as part of the hop on hop off city bus tour which made it easy enough to get to as the bus takes you to the park then you get the cable car up. It was quite relaxing to walk around and take in the views. There’s also the opportunity to buy some souvenirs or stop off at one of the cafes.
