“Decent hotel, friendly staff, horrible wifi”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

Traveled to Santiago, Chile to chaperone a trip of American college students. This hotel was conveniently located (a few blocks from subway). Staff was friendly, rooms were suitable in size (not large, but enough space). Bathrooms were very good and clean, but toiletries were inexpensive. Hallways were a bit dark and did not seem very clean, however, there was construction going on so it could have been due to that. Hotel had a small outdoor area with a small pool, but it was comfortable with a charming seating area. Continental breakfast was basically the same each day, but good. Lots of fresh fruit available. Front desk staff were helpful, but didn't always pass messages along to their replacement staff (if necessary). Only terrible thing about this hotel was the wifi. It was horrible. It basically only worked in the lobby (and wasn't always reliable). It almost never worked in the rooms. You had to try to get on while in the hallway and hoped the connection would last into your room.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has been recently renovated.

The location is excellent, the rooms are terrible and the services are poor. I understand Panamericana intend to upgrade the rooms, but when. The staff are helpful, and the breakfast was average. The airconditioning was very noisy. Impossible to get any coffee or tea before 7am,
No service outside on the patio, in the morning. Reception did assist us with tour information and arranged one tour for us.

Room Tip: Check if room has been upgraded

The comfort of the hotel is below my expectation, no doubt is very old. The AC cannot be turned off, safe locker is not functioning ( in fact very old fashion too), no shower gel is provided but just soap, no coffee making facility, no kettle for boiling water. Even upon my request, then they went out to buy a very cheap plastic thermo flask. Actually it is more convenient for me to boil water by myself. I don't know whether they are so stubborn or they don't understand my request, they insisted just a thermo flask.

Laundry returned only folded, no option to put on hanger. The standard of folded dress also poor.

In general, stuff don't speak English. Except front desk, nobody ever make effort to communicate with hotel guests to listen to their needs.

Hotel is old. Runned down. Walls are paper like. You can hear everything. Specially in the bathrooms. They are ok in size, but old. Heating came form a cheap split AC unit, nothing else.
This hotel in any other city should not be more than 45 USD a night for a double. Santiago is expensive considering Appartment rentals or hotel rooms. Ok, let go to a 60 USD a night. It is well connected (is not a nice neighboard, kinda old, but safe, has some life around), near to the metro. Let's go up to 80 USD a night.

They charge over 100 USD.

Has a good, simple, restaurant. An average breakfast included in the fare. That's all. There are far better places in Santiago for that money.

The double room was a single room with two beds united... not as big as the price suggests...
Kind of old hotel... the swimming pool is outdoor which makes it hard to use in the ski season...
The reception is not realiable as they didn't gave me a message and don't really helps with information about the city or anything else...
In addiction, the calling fee is really absurd...
There are many other better hotels to go with this price...

We stayed here (sadly) 3 nights at the end of our 3-week tour of Argentina/Chile with Adventures Abroad. There is only one good thing to say about the hotel: the front desk gave us the name of a department store so we could buy a replacement for my husband's broken suitcase. Otherwise the front desk was inept. My husband tried to call a friend on the house phone and was left hanging on the phone by the front desk. He hung up and called back and was given the wrong number. He had to go down to the front desk and insist on the correct number before getting it. This hotel goes beyond deferred maintenance. The carpet was filthy. The rooms were cramped, with almost no place to put the suitcases. The towels were one step from becoming rags. The bathroom tub was a danger without anything on the bottom to prevent one from slipping. The air conditioning system didn't work. Our first morning's breakfast was a nightmare: in addition to our small group, a very large tour group was there and there was inadequate staff to clear tables or replenish the breakfast buffet (which wasn't bad). The noise from the elevator reverberated throughout the hotel. The area near the pool is overgrown with weeds and the furniture was dirty and dusty. The hotel is located near the main avenue and that was a decided plus.
