This modern, soaring, center-atrium hotel is a good choice, on the upper (but not luxury) end of hotels. It is in the booming (much construction) northern side of the city. It is necessary to take a taxi to other locations in the city, but they were always available, and were reasonable. (The hotel doorman asked when we returned twice what we paid, and said it was OK - apparently, there are some problems with overcharging tourists. It might be good to ask hotel staff at the entrance approximately what the fare should be to your destination, to make sure you aren't gouged. It should be fairly easy to make sure too by seeing the meter as you get in. Don't expect taxi drivers to speak English.)

Our plane was very late (and we had a horrible long time in line at the airport, paying the $131 p.p. reciprocity/entry fee). So when we arrived at midnight, we were already assigned a room. I'm sure upper floors must have a grander view (if the clouds or smog are not too bad), but ours on a low floor was pleasant enough - looking out onto the lovely gardens around the pool. The room (probably standard) was roomy, clean, and furnished modern. Food prices in the hotel were high (for the city), but a restaurant meal was pleasant. Room service (breakfast) was prompt and accommodating (when the order didn't arrive exactly as ordered, it was quickly corrected). Note - there is an ATM just off the lobby - a safe, handy place to get Chilean pesos.

Have jst returned from a 4 night stay at the Hyatt in Santiago. A breathtaking property - unfortunately the only positive. Service is lax (to put it nicely). Room was not cleaned on one of the nights and after we requested the service had to wait for over one hour. Front desk staff and concierge are rude and were not of any help. I am a Hyatt Diamond guest and was VERY surprised that this property was granted their "Grand" status.

I stayed here 7 nights for a business conference, and it was the ideal choice of hotels, having everything you could possibly need. The rooms were large, and had great views over the Andes. Even though it was not near the centre of Santiago, there was a large shopping centre only a 5 minute walk away , which had a great variety of Restaurants and Bars.
The only area I could fault was that the bathroom was starting to look tired.

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt Santiago in January 2008.
The hotel was an atrium with very nice decor.
The rooms were very nice and very large with a lounge/TV area, desk and the usual bedroom, approximately twice the size of Hyatt rooms we stayed at in other parts of the world.
The breakfasts were very good and the service in general was also good.
The hotels Thai restaurant was nice although not entirely authentic.
The pool area was nice the only issue that we had with this hotel was that you were not allowed to even bring a bottle of water from outside the hotel to the pool they insisted on you buying from the pool bar.
The hotel was also an easy walk from a main shopping complex which had a supermarket, the usual shopping and many restaurants.

Maybe I was expecting more since it had been renamed a Grand Hyatt but I was left wondering what had really been renovated (apart from the rooms) since my last vist over 5 years before.

In my view the hotel still has the best views and the best setting of all the hotels in the city and if you are staying in the Grand Club the service is usually excellent. Service in the lobby area however was inconsistent.

The Thai Market restaurant is still a great experience but the sushi in Matsuri (Japanese) was a little disappointing. I later heard from some locals however that the Tepanyaki is the best in town so that's something to try on the next visit.

All in all still one of the better hotels in the city

We made a reservation on Hyatt.com a couple of days before getting to the hotel. When we arrived they had no record of us and tried to charge us $524 a night compared to the $420 that we had agreed online.

Apparently the extra was to cover breakfast, then the extra to cover the club floor. As we were discussing this the online rate dropped to $385 which they flat refused to honour. We were then not allowed breakfast for our stay even though the published rate of $420 a night we booked clearly showed online that breakfast was included.

We stayed 3 nights and only within hours of checkout was the matter resolved as no-one senior enough could be found in 3 days of our stay to correct the booking in their computer.

Overall the staff were friendly but had no authority and there was a daily visit by 'management' suits to the club floor which made the staff nervous and lacking confidence. We weren't the only guests dissatisfied as several other guests that checked in / out clearly had problems with the process and the amounts being charged.

All in all a bad experience in a corporate run hotel that does not understand customer service.

We would not be booking in again and were not happy with the treatment we received.

We stayed here for two nights. Rooms are nice and spacious with a small separate seating area. The standards are what you would expect from a large international business hotel. Pool is a lovely area and there is also a decent sized gym. There are a number of restaurants - nice but pricey. I had a massage at the spa which was reasonably priced (by international standards) and well done.

What I wasn't so keen on is the location - its not somewhere where you can just wander off to other bars and restaurants with any ease and really you have to take taxis to get around - easily obtained from the doormen though. The other downside for me is that one evening (in fact from midafternoon) we were unable to use the lovely outdoor space by the pool to relax in as it was being used/set up for a private party. To be expected I suppose but rather a shame.
