This is truly an excellent place and I had a very relaxing time. Yes the decor is extremely old fashioned (I wouldn't say classical- it's really more like someone's rich old crazy drunk aunt hired some interior decorator to just do what they wanted with the place), but it is all perfectly done in it's old fashioned way. Once you get over that, you can really enjoy your stay. And it's superbly enjoyable.
The Executive Lounge staff is a great welcome to the hotel. They have been the most wonderful helpful people I've ever encountered at a hotel anywhere. ANYWHERE! Manager Diana is great at sharing her tips for places to go and see. It is great to have an expat's point of view as well as that of locals like Marco and Carlos who also provided great context of Santiago. Natasha should get a big fat raise!! lol. She is amazing amazing amazing. I would not be surprised if she one day was the GM of a great establishment like the Ritz. She has an incredible skill to quickly (in a very friendly way) offer you 2 or 3 suggestions to your question regarding sightseeing, restaurants, mailing packages, getting transportation, etc. I do not want to leave out Sandra who tirelessly works in the Lounge and always provides a smile or any assistance willingly and gladly.
The food in the Lounge is high quality. My favorite thing was the chocolate presentation that usually happened around 8:15 or 8:30. It was awesome! If you want to make yourself really fat, try the donuts! They are addictive!!
The rooms are in a similar style to the hotel. While it may not be my style, it's great to see that it's carried consistently through the whole building. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. The bed is fantastic and the bathroom is a great setup and perfectly done. Housekeeping staff is super sweet and helpful.
The stay was what I needed. It was not super wild and crazy like the W (which I totally enjoy W atmosphere). But for this week, I needed the Ritz's calm and serenity.
Thanks to all for making it a wonderful experience. Finally, if you are looking for a hip, trendy atmosphere, this Ritz may not be the one for you. If you are looking for calm and relaxing, well appointed (by the way, W's are not really well-appointed even though I like them a lot), this is the choice for you.
