“Very nice stay”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

Hotel was very nice, staff was great but the club level lounge staff was nothing short of exceptional. Location is in a nice, safe, trendy area. We enjoyed the stay very much & we would certainly stay again.

We stayed here for two nights. Our room was large and comfortable with a very nice bathroom. Our service was excellent. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. The Internet fee was $25/day, which might be fine for business travelers, but more than a bit high for anyone else. We were able to get three hours free on one day, which we greatly appreciated. We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here for one night before a cruise departing from Valparaiso. Checkin and luggage assistance was fine, our room was good overlooking the square. What spoiled our experience was the breakfast chaos. They had at least two cruise groups staying and it seemed everyone wanted breakfast at the same time, so there was a long queue as well as people seated in the bar area. It took quite a while to be seated. This could be better organised, for example I wouldn't mind if our group had been given a specific time slot.
Unfortunately we did not have much time in Santiago so I can't comment on location.

My wife and I stayed at the Ritz-Carlton twice, the first time was when we were headed for four days in Patagonia and again when we returned. This is a businessman's oasis and is part of the Ritz-Carlton chain. It is very predictable and the rooms and furnishings are what one would and should expect from Ritz-Carlton. The first night we spent in a double room and it was very adequate. Upon our return from Patagonia, we were upgraded to a suite thanks to Amex platinum and the room was broken into a sitting room to go along with a standard-sized bedroom. We were only in the room for 7 hours to grab some sleep before heading to Ecuador, so there was a lot that I feel inadequate reviewing.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is comfortable staying at a Ritz-Carlton. I know that it has received some mixed reviews on TripAdvisor, but I do not share their criticisms. My wife and I always stay in "upscale hotels" and this Ritz did not disappoint. If you are going to Patagonia and have just a limited amount of time in Santiago, this hotel has an amazing location. Wandering around the area for a few hours made my wife and I want to return to Santiago. If we do return, we would be very happy staying at the Ritz-Carlton.

This hotel deserves its 5 star rating. We spent three nights here in a deluxe room that was at least 10 metres x 5 metres including the en-suite bathroom with enclosed toilet. The bed was superb, the room clean and the service excellent. Staff were very helpful and in a country where not a lot of English is spoken, communication was easy in the hotel. Our room included a buffet breakfast which was more than adequate in a superb dining area.

Room Tip: Choose a deluxe room for good value.

We stayed 5 nights at the Ritz using our Marriott points - 120,000 got us 5 nights in an executive suite with lounge access. I thought this was a great value, but might not rate the hotel as highly if I actually paid the $569/night rate listed on the website.

The room:
The room was excellent, separate bedroom and living room. The sofa was not a pull-out so not usable as a second bed for those looking for that option. Decor was a little dated and not my style, but still nice. The king bed was very comfortable, slept great! There seemed to be twice a day room service for cleaning and turn-down which was done each day, but as long as we get clean towels each day I'm not too picky.

Oddly, we also got a bottle of the lapostalle wine that the Ritz has rebranded that appeared to be for another guest. We informed the desk of this and were told they would come pick it up, but they never did so that was one more bottle added to our collection to bring home.

The room also had 2 plug adapters for our American gadgets as well as 1 transformer built into the wall. Since we left ours at home by accident, this was awesome. We also got 2 free pressings per day which I'm not sure is included with the standard room or was part of our lounge access (and pressing does not include laundering).

The pool:
Located on the roof, there is also a sun deck which seemed to get packed and empty out in spurts so if no chair is available, just try again in another half hour. They had food available in the afternoon, but didn't do pool side drinks that I could tell. Everyone seems to wear their room robes and slippers up to the pool deck so no need to pack a coverup or flip flops. The gym is also connected and didn't require an extra fee to use.

The spa:
I didn't use the spa, but for the Ritz I thought the prices were surprisingly reasonable - $50 for a 30 minute massage for example. The prices seemed pretty reasonable compared to high end hotels in the US, but there are also cheaper alternatives around town.

The lounge:
We didn't have to pay extra for the lounge so that was a huge benefit. Access costs about $100 to $125 USD extra per day depending if you book as part of your room. I don't think that would be worth it, but there also seemed to be a $25 option if you just wanted one "presentation" or meal. Breakfast is 6am to 11am and included meats, cheeses, omelette of the day, fruit selection, cereal, yogurt, bread selection, bacon, potatoes, oatmeal and juices. There is also a coffee machine with American style coffee and cappuccino and also tea available all day as well as water and sodas. Dinner was usually small sandwiches and other snack sized foods and they had some excellent ceviche on Sunday night. Dessert had quite a variety of sweets and fruits, but was mostly dissapointing. From around 3pm to 10pm they have complimentary wine and champagne but no liquor or beer. We never made it to lunch. Also, we got free Internet as Internet in the lounge was free and the signal also reached our room. There was a second coffee machine and granola bars and water outside the lounge on the 10th floor that didn't appear to require lounge access to use/take.

The location:
While not in the center of the touristy areas, the location is still excellent. You are maybe 300 feet from the closest metro which takes you straight into providencia and the other areas. It is also very walkable to providencia if you aren't in a rush and only 2 blocks from the W hotel and many restaurants like taramisiu. Also, the location feels very safe and we had no problems walking here at night, just use standard common sense and you'll be fine.

Restaurants/Bars:
We never ended up eating at the restaurants but did stop in for some beer and liquor drinks (which weren't available in the lounge). They are overpriced, but that was expected. I think around 3,600 to 4,500 pesos for a beer, and 7,500 pesos and up for drinks. There is a happy hour but we seemed to miss it.

Concierge & Service:
We used Sindy at the club lounge to book our dinners which was very convenient and they seemed pretty diligent in following up to make sure we knew the times of confirmation. It seemed like most restaurants recommended a reservation so it would have been tricky for us with our limited Spanish skills. Also, many of the staff members addressed me by name even though it was the first time I saw them, a very nice touch.

Room Tip: Rooms are floors 2 through 11 with floor 12 being a special floor (possibly the larger suites?) and...

We stayed at this hotel when my husband was discharged from hospital following surgery for a broken leg. The hotel provided every thing we needed, a walk in shower with grab rails, lifts and restaurants. While our stay was only for two nights we thoroughly enjoyed the general ambience of the hotel. The restaurants excellent and the lounge a wonderful escape from staying in our room during the day. We were not able to explore the area as my husband on crutches. I regret not trying the pool. Staff we had dealings with friendly and helpful. We were offered a late checkout the day we were due to fly home to Australia which was appreciated. We enjoyed our stay at the Ritz Carlton and would have preferred to be guests under pleasanter circumstances.
