“Worth it”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

We had recommendations to stay either at the Ritz or the W Hotel. We decided on the Ritz and were happy that we did. We had a junior suite with plenty of room and a decent view. The beds were comfortable (even the rollaway that we needed) and the bathroom was large and up to date. We had a special occasion and were greeted one evening with rose petals on the bed and a bottle of champagne! The hotel staff was very helpful and accommodating - with the majority of the staff able to speak some English (important when your Spanish is limited). A couple of complaints however - there were some phone problems with calls inside the hotel not being connected - the concierge was not readily available. The front desk would pick up the calls for the concierge when they did not answer and offered to pass on our questions/request - we did not hear back on three occasions.
The hotel is a little dark but we enjoyed the style and appointment of the furniture and decorating.
The restaurant was nice but expensive.
The club level was excellent - plenty of beverages, food and helpful staff. Really made the hotel worth returning to.

Room Tip: Room with a view of the Andes if possible

Can never go wrong with Ritz Carlton and this lives up to the name. Rooms are spacious and well appointed and have the basic amenities. Sadly both of our rooms were lacking irons, ironing oards and wine openers but these issues were resolved. Dining at the hotel is excellent but very expensive. Health club still needs some repairs in the spa but still a nice place to visit.

Room Tip: Very quiet hotel but i expect upper floors more quit than lower floors.

This used to be the best hotel in Santiago after it opened in 2001, but sadly no longer. The hotel has had little or no money spent on it since it opened. Th scuffed and dirty marks on the room floor corridor walls and in the rooms bear visible witness to the lack of any refurbishment or proper maintenance to the hotel's facilities. But there is more. Nothing seems to work properly - not the phones, the Internet, the air conditioning or the key system to the rooms. Not even the coffee machine in the executive lounge. Everything one touches is either broken or faulty. With the exception of the staff in the Executive Lounge on the 10th floor and the hotel drivers, the staff overall displays all the hallmarks of inadequate training and a general inability to cope with their tasks. The maintenance staff cannot fix anything (could not fix either the airconditioning or telephone in my room in the four days of my stay there), while the reception was always overcrowded because multiple staff seemed to be engaged on the same tasks (two staff members checking in or checking out one guest). The word "sorry" seemed to be the word most widely used to excuse the overall failures and incompetence of this hotel. What a pity for a hotel that is so well located and has such potential. When I inquired if there had been significant staff changes that had occurred since my last visit there five years ago, I was told that no changes had occurred. Yet I discovered that the former GM had left to join the W Hotel and had taken with him some key staff. Perhaps this accounts for the deterioration in this hotel.

Room Tip: Until radical refurbishment and repairs to systems are introduced, there is no recommendation that o...

Stayed here for just the one night following a long flight. Arrived mid-day but our room was available immediately. Enjoyed a light lunch in the Club Lounge and spent the afternoon walking around on what was a very warm day. Our room was quite comfortable, but in the older style, and had a pleasant outlook. The service in the Club Lounge was exceptional, particularly from Natasha, who spent a good deal of time locating a store with a particular camera accessory, and then arranged a cab to get us there and back - above and beyond, and most appreciated. Food in the Lounge was quite pleasant, and breakfast was a step up from that. Highly recommend this hotel if you're comfortable with the older style.

We were here 12 months ago and have returned to use The Ritz Carlton as our home base for three weeks travelling in Chile.

Check-in in the Club lounge was perfect and as we arrived around midday were impressed that our room was ready. We enjoyed a light lunch in the lounge and then took our first siesta after the flight from Australia followed by an excellent massage in the spa. Being Christmas day only one restaurant was open and not the one we had booked into. The hotel had transferred our booking on our behalf and the food was delicious.

Started today with a swim and spa before heading to Valparaiso. Returning here again in 5 days.

Room Tip: We were in 901 at the end of the corridor and was very quiet.

I spent four nights there at the start of December. The problems started immediately. Understaffed front desk, wifi did not work, battery on tv remote flat, coffee machine in business lounge not functioning, key system failed continually so until I "lost it" I had to return to the queues in reception to get a new key each time i wanted ro enter my room. The key system failed 5 times. The pool did not open until after 8 rendering it useless for a pre-work swim. The manager set up an appointment to discuss my issues then failed to meet his own appointment. Despite all this there were some friendly and helpful staff laboring beneath incompetent management.
