“Central but quiet”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

We used this hotel as a base for a sightseeing trip, post arrival from a cruise. This is a reasonably priced hotel on a side street off one of Santiago main streets. It is extremely convenient for the sights including San Cristobal and close to a number of reasonably priced restaurants with green space adjacent to the through river. Rooms are large, mostly like small suites with a separate work/lounge area and ample bathroom. Decor is simple but clean and the hotel seems well managed, staff very friendly. Breakfast is very good with plenty of fruit, bakery products, cold cuts and egg dishes as requested. Not sure if I would want to use the restaurant in the evening - maybe a bit soulless but the bar serves a cool beer and a pleasant pisco. The hotel is very happy to book airport transport and appears to offer a discount against rank rates.

Room Tip: No real views but quiet so really depends on if you want to see the main drag.

Overall, no real compelling reason to stay at this old property. Reviews of hotels are subjective, but I can tell you this hotel looked and felt old – that is a pretty black and white. Front desk staff were efficient but not particularly friendly.

The hotel is located in Providencia which is a nice area but definitely not as glam as Vitacura and Las Condes. Nonetheless, the location is well situated to visit most sites in Santiago.

We had a suite which was nice to have a sofa and livingroom area in addition to a bedroom with two double beds. There was also a large walk in closet and a large, but very dated washroom. Each room had an old CRT television and there were some upkeep issues like dented and scraped furniture; a very wonky and crooked bed; light fixtures that needed replacing and an old and tired sofa. Beds were comfortable enough and cleaning was good but this room just felt old.

Breakfast is typically included in Chilean hotels (so think twice if your hotel doesn’t offer it) and the NH breakfast was actually pretty good. It was just a simple selection of breads and cheese but the egg station and also fresh fruits were appreciated. Serving staff were half asleep in the breakfast room but the buffet was well maintained.

Pool and work out area are a joke and not worth mentioning. At best the pool was a large Jacuzzi. Exercise room were second hand from the charity store.

So overall, no real reason to stay here – check out other hotels in Santiago.

Stayed here while attending the World Congress of Medicine. What struck me immediately was the sheer simplicity of the room. No frills, just downright efficient. The room has four compartments. The living room with sofa, dining table, mini bar, work station and TV. The bathroom with tub/shower, toilet and grooming area. The bedroom with large bed, three table lamps and another TV. Closet with multiple shelves, ironing board and safe.
The location is perfect. As you exit the lobby, turn right and after a few steps you´re in the street corner. Make this your landmark. Immediately across is the Balmaceda park for jogging and luckily when I arrived was hosting a formula 1 event with Michael Schumacher. Less than a hundred meters to your left is a convenience store called Market am/pm. Half a block to your right, face right and there are several al fresco restaurants serving Japanese, Italian and of course, Chilean food. Two blocks to your right is the Salvador metro station which brings you four stops or less to the following: (1) Tobalaba station where the Costanera mall is; there is a Jumbo supermarket in the 1st floor (even if I´m a beer drinker, Chilean wine was a must so I got a bottle of Santa Rita Gran Edicion 120, a combination of shiraz and cabernet sauvignon--sweet and smooth!); on the 3rd floor is Emporio la Rosa which has the best gelato in town. (2) Santa Lucia station where you can shop for souvenirs (handicraft, native musical instruments, the local liquor "pisco", keychains, etc.). (3) Plaza de Armas where Bandera street is located (25-30 used clothing stores, Santiago´s version of Ross but much cheaper--formal and golf slacks for $10, luggage for $20). (4) Los Leones where there is underground shopping for perfumes, video games, knick-knacks; also, across the street is Galeria Drugstore with several boutiques selling retro-cool clothes and proudly declaring "made in Chile, not China". For the more adventurous, go to farther Santa Ana station, ask for calle Cienfuegos and there you´ll find the best steakhouse in town, the Las Vacas Gordas; there I downed 350 grams of Wagyu lomo liso and realized just one meal can make the whole trip memorable.
Now back to the hotel. They have the most exotic breakfast: chorizo, serrano ham, white cheese, dulce membrillo, empanaditas. The variety of juices is mind-boggling: strawberry (the best), brocolli (!), pear, peach, combination of orange and mango, orange and carrot and so on. Even water has different choices: with cucumber, grapefruit, kiwi and more.
The staff (must mention Dayana and Cristian in the front desk) are very friendly and will not hesitate to help you with directions. If you want an extended checkout, you can pay $15 per hour up to 6 pm but I was not able to do this since the hotel was fully booked.
A bit of a downer: there are only 12 TV channels, half of them devoted to children (Disney, cartoon network, Discovery kids, Nickelodeon, you get the point). There is only 1 English-spoken channel (BBC); even CNN is in Spanish! Also, the elevators open and close without a sound; you must be alert or you´ll have to wait for the next ride.
Overall, a more-than-satisfying stay. Nice Hotel, NH.

A pleasant hotel with very courteous and helpful staff, well located for tourists.

We had a room on the 9th floor at the back. It had a leafy view over Santiago and was perfectly quiet. The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable.

Breakfast was good.

This is a hotel for business people as well as tourists. It may be a little tired, as others have pointed out, but I would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: High floor at the back should be quiet with decent views

We reserved at the NH Santiago, after staying in the beautiful NH hotel in Granada this past June. Sadly, we were disappointed. The hotel is in Providencia, and close to the Bella Vista district of Santiago; which is a great location for restaurant, night life and safety. However, it is very dated and is in desperate need of renovations. Curtains were almost broken, water did not run well in the sink, carpet and paint need refreshing, etc. The hotel bar and restaurant are not facilities that you may enjoy; other than for breakfast. There is no natural light and the facilities are not inviting. On the positive side, food during breakfast was very good, with lots of choices, both cold and hot. Good choice if you get a special price. Otherwise, I think that you can do better in Santiago.

Where to start? Location is very good, room size is massive - I seemed to have had a suite. Those are the bright spots. However.... the hotel is run down and doesn't feel clean at all. The quality of sleep was just bad. It was tough to set the temp in the room to something reasonable. The toilet kept on clogging up. The shower randomly goes into spurts of steaming hot water that would land this hotel chain with massive lawsuits if they were operating in the US. Also, they have an odd policy of charging $15 per hour for early check-ins. I came in at 7am and was asked to wait until 8am and then pay $90 for the early check-in. When I asked why I couldn't just go in now, they said they would have to charge me for a full extra night if they let me in now. Lame. If only they took the same uncompromising attitude with their plumbing, maybe this hotel woudln't suck so bad.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

I chose the hotel because is well located for people attending an event I was also running. My feedback is "Good Enough" but it is an old hotel a little bit updated and you can tell. Dont think I will be coming back next time I visit Santiago
