“Great hotel, great staff, in a very good location.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2013

This Marriott hotel is very modern with comfortable and quiet rooms. The bathrooms are very comfortable and well appointed. I used the fitness center regularly and it has a number of different exercise options and was never crowded. The hotel is in a great location within walking distance to a mall with many restaurant options. I was able to visit the breakfast buffet and it was very good with hot and cold food and wonderful pastries. The staff here is very welcoming and always will to help answer any questions. They even helped me get into the lounge upstairs so I could take some gorgeous pictures of the recently snow-covered mountains.

Great for business travelers. Every accommodation made to facilitate early arrival and late check-out - always a plus with international travel. You always know what you'll get with Marriott. Ask for a higher floor with Andes view.

The hotel is a little out of the way, about a 15 min walk from the nearest subway train (metro, tube...etc) and a short cab ride from downtown.
The rooms were ready when they said it would be. The room was a normal North American size and had a mini-fridge with stuff (not free). The were clean and the beds comfortable. The shower and bathroom were good clean with plenty of hot water. The room was cleaned every night and like most hotels now, if you want the sheets and towels changed you need to act...the towels on the bathroom floor and a little card if you want fresh sheets. They make the bed just right. The room included an iHome alarm clock that would hold and iPhone (not the lightning connector).
They had wi-fi available in the room for a fee, but was included in the lobby with hook ups and plugs.
The lobby was spacious and comfortable to sit in and have a coffee at the bar, as well as the above-mentioned free wi-fi. We had breakfast included through our travel agent and it was very good. A selection of fruits, cereals, eggs, sausages, buns, juices, etc. that did not leave us wanting.
We used the exercise facilities and the pool as well as the hot tub and all were above average.
We had a couple of small issues - a burnt out bulb - we left a note for the cleaning staff and it was replaced before we returned. The safe couldn't lock and someone came up immediately to repair it - turned out to be user error :)
Nearby is a shopping area with good food as well as a large grocery store if you want to get your own things.
All in all I would stay there again as it was easy, comfortable, and quiet. The staff were excellent, attentive and willing to help with any questions we had.

I was in Santiago on business from May 6 - 10, 2013, and chose the Marriott over other hotels in the Las Condes and Vitacura sections of the city because I can always count on Marriott to deliver a consistent facility and staff experience. That said, here are my thoughts and observations from my stay.
1) Without question, and no matter what time of the day or night, the entire staff at this facility was outstanding! The bellmen, housekeeping, front desk, and restaurant personnel all spoke excellent English, and went out of their way to accommodate my needs. One could argue that this is expected of the people who work in the hospitality industry, however I've lost count of the number of times where I have left a hotel/resort feeling less than satisfied w their commitment to making my stay their top priority. Kudos to staff and the management team who helps foster this type of "guest first" commitment.
2) I stayed in room #508 which is a corner room that overlooks both Av Presidente Kennedy and the northeast, but has an obstructed view of the Andes because of its on a lower floor. Some TA contributors have complained about these corner rooms, but I found it perfectly suitable for my needs as the room was very clean, well maintained, and in line w what I expect of a Marriott property, especially one that's located in a capital city.
3) I was less than pleased w the US dollar to Chilean Peso exchange rate at the hotel. I asked why the exchange rate was so low, and was given the answer that it tracks against the current exchange rate which was categorically not true. At the time that I was in Santiago, $1 = ~$472 CLP, however I recall receiving either $460 or $465 CLP, so do yourself a favor and exchange your currency elsewhere.
4) I ate breakfast each morning in the Cafe Med restaurant and was very pleased w their service, wide selection, quality, and taste of both local and international breakfast choices. I use the Athens Hilton Byzantino restaurant as the standard by which all breakfasts buffets are measured, so having them as my "10", Cafe Med is a solid 8.5 and worth your consideration.
5) You owe it to yourself to have at least one dinner at the Latin Grill on the lower level of the hotel. The service, ambiance, wine menu, and outstanding appetizer and main course selections make this somewhat of a hidden gem in Santiago. That being said, my outstanding meal w appetizer, glass of wine, and main course including tip was $34,340 CLP or about $72 USD considering exchange rate during my stay, so it was a bit more expensive than I had hoped, but I left feeling that it was money well spent.
6) The Las Condes section of Santiago is very upscale w luxury condos and estate homes scattered amongst commercial buildings, and the Marriott is about a 5 min walk to the Arauco shopping mall that has numerous great restaurant and shopping choices. It appears that Las Condes is getting its share of development money as there are some large commercial and residential construction projects between the Marriott and the Manquehue metro station which is a solid 15 minute walk from the hotel. Since this is the closest Metro station, and as long as that area is under construction, the route is not suitable for dragging roller suitcases or wearing expensive shoes as it's full of broken sidewalks and dusty/dirty conditions.
7) The Santiago Metro is well worth the experience as I found it very efficient, clean, and well marked. Since I read Spanish much better than I speak it, navigating the Metro stations was quite easy, and the front desk staff at the Marriott will give you a manageable folding map of the Metro system as well as recommendations on where to visit, safety, etc. Santiago is a wonderful city, and worthy of exploration.
8) If you like to walk and experience your surroundings, you can walk the 11 or so km from the Marriott to La Moneda by following the Metro line starting at the Manquehue station. That trek took me about 2 hrs 10 mins between 6 - 8p, and at no time did I ever feel uneasy about my surroundings.
9) Lastly, I will most likely stay at the Marriott again if my travels take me back to Santiago, however my personal preference would be to take this great facility and its people to a location that's closer to the areas around La Moneda, Santa Lucia, or Plaza de Armas since they are more centrally located and thereby accessible without a long Metro or cab ride.

Very clean and great hotel for business travel. Watch the billing and invoice though, the credit card changes come through as USD instead of local currency which is an issue for some expense systems. By credit card charges did not match the final bill I was provided and a few conversations and e-mails were required to fix it. Agree with the other reviews, if you want to go anywhere besides the mall, a cab ride is required.

The Santiago Marriott is a suitable hotel for business travelers. While it’s not as nice as the Marriott and JW Marriott in Bogota, Colombia, it far exceeds the Marriott in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The hotel is conveniently located near a large shopping mall with a wide variety of restaurants and shops.

The rooms are very large with comfortable beds and standard Marriott issue bedding. The hotel is well sound proofed and you do not hear a lot of traffic noise, which can be common in South America. The décor is modern, but upon close inspection you will notice that some of the baseboards, molding, and doors have seen better days. The bathrooms are nice, but the water pressure in the shower was very poor.

The breakfast buffet was good and the overall service was good.

I would stay here again for business.

I return to this hotel annually and have always been pleased with the room, service and concierge lounge. The beds are very comfortable, the view of the mountains is great and everyone is quick to help you. It's not downtown, but a short cab ride can get you there. I would not recommend you exchange money here, as the rate is much worse than banks or exchange houses.

Room Tip: If you want a view of the mountains ask when you check in. The mountains are much further away from...
