“Very good Nikkei”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2013

We go to Hanzo often, it is near our house, good Peruvian-Japanese and well priced.

I was surprised to read some of the reviews here. I have been going to Hanzo since it has opened and have never seen it empty (we usually go at dinner) or with issues with their variety of fish available.

Last night (Wednesday) it was very close to full (we arrived at 8pm, early, but by 9 it was bustling). The quality of sashimi was excellent (they had salmon, tuna, corvina (Chilean Seabass), octopus and prawns, from memory), we had salmon only and it was proper sashimi grade belly salmon.

We also had the Hanzo ceviche, which is the classic style with Corvina, but with a slight variety, it had the most tender, delicious (quite salty, but I liked it that way) crispy fried calamari rings on top. It was really good. We had two different sushi rolls, can´t remember the names, but they were excellent too.

As far as previous comments go, there was definitely central heating, I had a 3/4 sleeve t-shirt on and despite the fact that it was nearly 0 degrees Centigrade outside, I was comfortable without my jacket.

The wait staff are friendly, mostly Peruvian and they are happy to recommend food if one is unsure of what to order.

We had a great Pisco Sour, as it was National Pisco Sour day and a bottle of Montes Reserva Sauv Blanc. The bill was around 60mil including a tip and we had a great evening.

“No fish in a Japanese-Peruvian fusion Restaurant???????”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2013

Went there 3 persons, and immediately we realize that no table was with people, strange for the locations and infrastructure of the place.
When we ask for the menu the host told us that there were no fish so all the preparations with fish were not available....... A Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant with no fish, no tuna????? that is incredible.... but it make sense when you realize that was totally empty of customers..... very sad experience looking the people working there alone.......
Looks like this restaurant will not be there much more with this management.

“Great food, great service...but pricey”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2012

I've got to disagree with the comment below that the food is average, and is not fusion. Many of the sushi dishes do come with sauces, although they are neither heavy, nor mayo) that enhance the flavors and introduce a new twist on the traditional sushi experience. There are many poor attempts at asian, especially sushi, in Latin America and this one is pretty good. I will agree that the rice is often too thick, and what is with this infatuation with cream cheese in sushi that you find everywhere in LatAm? At lease they don't have chipotle sauce on everything like they do in Mexico. Our favorites are the butter rolls and Inca maki, but we haven't gone wrong with any of the dishes. The sweet rice is also very close to the authentic chinese dish.

The service and ambience is very good. I do agree that the place could use some central heat. As with many places in Santiago, the place is very cold in the winter. Should tell the owners something when all of their patrons are eating with coats on! And it's not because of a maintenance problem, as the comment below suggests, they maintain that temp all winter! The other thing is the music is simply wrong for the food and ambience.

Finally, while great food, very pricey even by Chile standards. A couple having a couple of drinks and some sushi and desert can expect to pay over 50,000 pesos ($100). As a North American, that's steep for Japanese food, but I keep going back because it is good food.

“Excellent choice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2012

In Santiago there are lots of Japanese and Nikei restaurants but I've had really bad experiences. This restaurant is, and belive me, one of the best of them. The food is fantastic, the location is very nice and the service is excellent. The makis are very original, they have all kinds, the tuna is mouth watering and for dessert you MUST try the cheese cake tempura, its fabulous! I highly recommend this place, its a little bit pricy but it is totally worth it.

“A very good nikkei restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2012

Hanzo is a very good nikkei option at Santiago, the "ostiones" as an appetizer was very good and original, the tare roll also had a combination of flavors that you could savor one at a time as an experiment on the mouth, just the riceless roll, which I can´t remember the name now, was not that different but still very good.
Service was flawless, fast and attentious, the outside sitting is nice specially during spring/summer, I don´t like much the inside dark decoration during the day at least. The location is very good at Vitacura, some may not like to be watching tennis players while eating though.
Last but not least, price, expensive! clearly expensive
