We spent most of the day wandering the city taking in the 'Fiestas Patrias' events. By late afternoon we were ready for a drink and snack. We looked around the Bellavista plaza and decided to try out the Fukai restaurant.

First of all - their seating offered a great view of the local families singing and dancing the traditional way. Lots of fun. Second - our waiter was very helpful - offering wine and beer suggestions - later providing an English menu on his tablet.

This is a sushi restaurant; however, I prefer cooked food in a foreign country. Our waiter offered some great suggestions. We had some nice shrimp rolls in a bitter/sweet sauce, and some excellent ribs. Very nice Tapas.

A great spot with very welcoming staff!

We happened by this place unexpectedly but were very happy to have done so. We had been walking all day after a four hour walking tour of four neighbourhoods in Santiago and came upon Patio Bella Vista which is a courtyard full of restaurant patios and boutiques. We arrived without reservations and the owner seated us on the patio and personally explained the menu and wine list to us in English (yay!) He asked us our preferences and suggested certain items and we chose the salmon ceviche with tiger milk and the seared tuna salad. Both were so beautifully presented that we took photos and the taste was out of this world. We had excellent pairing wines for both dishes as the owner is very savvy about Chilean wines. We returned a second time and had the beef carpaccio and the salmon ceviche again as it is sooooo good. I highly recommend this restaurant and will probably go back before I return to Canada.

As Santiago can get very hot in January, it is great to have lunch in the shade on the terrace of Fukai with a nice glass of white wine, which we did twice. They serve both traditional sushi and a whole range of creative rolls. Try the Nikkei roll, it is awesome! Though the place was pretty full both times, service was friendly and quick. Recommended.

In the midst of Bellavista is a quiet and lively market/foodcourt where you can find artesenal goods and all kinds of food. The winter is not the best place for the outside dining but with all the heaters you can easily sit outside. Sometimes it is warmer outside than inside.

Fukai is a quiet place in a modern style. It offers all kinds of Japanes sushi and sashimi while also other types of food as well. The food is solid but lacks the "whau" factor. The waiters are friendly and pay sufficient attention to the customers. I will try to come back in the summer.

The bill was according to what you can expect making the place a nice balance for price quality relation.

Went here last Sunday afternoon with my boyfriend for a quick bite to eat and left in the worst mood possible. Our waiter was friendly enough but we waited upwards of 40 minutes for our food before we had to call him over and ask if they'd forgotten about us. He sort of mumbled an unintelligible excuse and 5 minutes later the 2 makis we'd ordered arrived but we had to ask again for wasabi and shoyu, then wait another 10 minutes for it to be brought. Also, the gyozas we'd ordered as a starter arrived 15 minutes after we'd finished the sushi and we had to ask repeatedly for them too. When the check arrived the 10% gratuity was already factored in so we just paid it and vowed we'd never return. Average food, terrible service. Do yourself a favor and skip this place.
