“decent and comfortable hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2013

The rooms and bathroom are spacious and pleasant. Staff is very friendly and go to great length to help and serve you.
The lobby unfortunately is plagued with very loud music, techno or pop, if this is not your thing, a major pain.
The occasional event in espacio riesco can keep you awake at night as well.
The food is ok for this class of hotel, you have numerous alternatives just across the hotel.

Hotel Mercure is a refurbished hotel with a nice lobby and bar.
The rooms are big and clean with bathtubs, safe , big closet , flat screen TV and coffee/tea.
The breakfast is big and good (although some veracity will be welcome).
The hotel stuff are very friendly, warm and willing to help and assist with everything , most of them are speaking good English.
Popular music is being played in the public area 24/7 , some will say it’s nice some will complain about it , I thought it is nice.
One of the most important thing you need to know about Hotel Mercury is its location.
The hotel is located in CIUDAD EMPRESARIAL which is High Tec industrial park 10-15 minutes from downtown Santiago. It is perfect for business travelers which have meetings in the CIUAD EMPRESARIAL.
Even with the disadvantage of the location (not in the middle of the city) even the leisure traveler can find it as a solution for hotel in Santiago if he is whiling to use the public transportation (there is a bus near the hotel) or a Taxi which will with short ride will bring you to the city (7500 Pesos for hotel Taxi , 3500 Pesos for street taxi).
Adjust to the hotel there is a convenient store (“OK”) which is open 6 days a week until 23 PM which provide most of the necessary things for the stay.
50 meters from the hotel there are several restaurants which usually open until 10 PM , the Japanize sushi bar (Fukai) and the Peruan resturan (Mi Causa) are very good.
Room service is limited and operates until around 11 PM (although claimed differently) the food is not bad.
The hotel bar have a wonderful daily promotion of 1+1 on the cocktails every day from 7 PM until 11 PM , it’s a nice offer to try the local Chilean drink , Pisco sour (two Pisco sours around 2500 Pesos).
The hotel is 20 minutes from the airport, cost to the hotel (and from the hotel) is between 16000 to 19000 Pesos.
Please remember to tell the taxi driver “CIUDAD EMPRESARIAL” since there is another Mercury hotel in the downtown.
The hotel dose not has a fitness center, there is one which is adjust to the hotel and a daily pass can be purchases for it.
To summaries the hotel is a good option as a clean nice and warm hotel taken into consideration the location (10 minutes from the center with a taxi).

We stayed at this hotel for 6 Nights. My husband was on business, and as the office was within walking distance, his company chose this hotel.
As said in previous reviews, this is NOT a hotel if you are a tourist.

Lobby: Although very neat and modern. The music in the lobby is enough to anger a person. It is loud and just plain nasty/horrible music. As a tourist this music drove me insane. So I could only imagine that as a business man, who is either on his way to a meeting or coming back from one, this music will put you in such a bad mood, I would want to avoid everyone after hearing it.

Room: Really nice and modern and Very large - not sure which room type we had, std etc, as the company booked. But like I said large and clean. Nice big windows, which open for fresh air
Bathroom: Although not the best design regarding the door placement, it was fine.
Lighting in the room could also be better, I just feel that the room was quite dark, and all the lights were on and it still felt too dark

Location: As said, far from town. I did an excursion and was charged $40 (US), extra just to come fetch me from there
Not much going on around as far as shops go. There are a few places to eat though, and there is a small grocery shop right next door

There is no gym in the hotel, however there is one in the building right next door, at a cost of US$4 per session.
I used it and did a good workout. They have the usual gym equipment. Stationary bike, treadmill and elliptical trainers.

Room service: On the first day, I got excellent service from the person that answered the phone. Food was delivered within 15minutes. It was really good. We had salad, spaghetti bolognaise, pizza and French fries and all was really good
However the second time I ordered, I got someone who could not speak English, she had to go call someone who could speak English. Food was still delivered within 15minutes
The third time, still no English and then they just put the phone down in my ear.

Business Centre: So the day I tried to use it, there were young kids occupying all the computers. Now last time I read it was a business centre, NOT a cyber café. When eventually all the kids left, I needed to have something printed. The member of staff on duty at the front desk, was not able to help me. And said I must email him what needed to be printed. Everything was in Spanish on the computer, which I did not understand and he could not even send it himself as I think he did not understand how the computer system works
So the business centre was all but one!

Front desk: All staff members, but one were very friendly and incredibly helpful

Breakfast: Nice variety, but a bit boring after 6 days as the menu never changed. It was however always good.

This hotel is also incredibly noisy, there is a lot of banging going on, first I thought it was the lift going up and down. But not sure that it was that. It would carry on till about 9pm. But it was terrible.

Overall, this hotel is ok if you are there for business. If you can get past the horrible lobby music, the strange banging noises that go on and hopefully the business centre can be used as one if you stay there

Just one last thing, everyone at the front desk spoke English. And as I said not much English when ordering room service. And I realise that I am in a Spanish speaking country, but I would at least think that as this hotel caters mainly for business people, some basic English should be spoken by the reception staff (i.e Room service, restaurant staff etc).

I flew in on red eye and had specifically requested an early check-in. The hotel insisted on charging me for half a night extra, and the check-in staff were very rude when I complained about paying this. I travel a great deal and have never had to pay for early check-in. It was minus 2 degrees in Santiago and my room was freezing, the heating didn't work. I complained 3 times and eventually they sent an engineer who couldn't fix it and just told me to close the bathroom door!!! I had to sleep fully clothed as they would not change my room as apparently they were fully booked.

No-one helped me to open the hotel door when I was struggling to get in with luggage and no-one helped with luggage. The music in the reception area and bar was so loud it was not posssible to sit and have a conversation.

The room was very tired and old fashioned more 3 star than 4 star. The bathroom was simply too dark to put make up on and the 'white' towels were grey, as well as the water being only lukewarm never hot. The wardrobe was unusable unless you removed the ironing board which blocked it.

I ordered a hot soup from room service to try and warm up, it arrived cool and congealed and the very unpleasant room service girl wanted to take the cover which was the only thing keeping the soup warm. The bread was actually uncooked, just raw dough!

A thoroughly unpleasant and expensive experience which spoilt my first trip to Santiago.

Room Tip: Book a room in another hotel!!

It's a very well re-furbished business type hotel, it's sleek, modern and service is great! Brekky was excellent, there's lot of great international restaurants opposite the Hotel too. Just one drawback, don't book if you want to wander around Santiago CBD very often coz it aint' near!

I cannot comment much on the location. My trip was very busy and I only had time for the hotel, office and airport. I was very happy with my time in the hotel. I slept well, the housekeeping was good, and the work space was good. Being an American, it was nice to have people at the desk that spoke English (way better than my Spanish!). The breakfast times, and food selection was good. The restaurant and lounge provided good dinners when I arrived back at the hotel late at night and hungry. Overall, the staff was very nice and helpful too. I would stay there again if I have business in the same location.

Good location if you go on business only to Ciudad Empresarial in Santiago.
If you want to go another location from the hotel, example dowtown, it is far away.
Another tip - very few restaurants around the hotel.
