We experienced a great tour around Santiago with our tourguide Pablo, who did not hesitate to answer any questions about chilean history, culture and lifestyle and gave us a lively impression of his hometown! Muchas gracias, Pablo!

We attended the Patrimonial walking tour with SpicyChile and left halfway through, very disappointed. In our year long trip around South America we've been on dozens of walking tours and this was unfortunately one of the worst. The guide said his English wasn't great, and although it seemed OK to us we were let down by his lack of energy. On many walking tours guides help you learn about and fall in love with the city, but this tour was really tedious and boring. The guide spent more time making excuses for areas being trashed instead of giving us information about the areas visited. The sparce information he did give us was often incorrect (wrong names of churches, incorrect background on historical figures) as we took notes and researched the info ourselves. The final straw for us was when we stopped (about 45 minutes into the supposedly 3 hour tour) for a coffee break that we were told would last 15 minutes. Since we didn't want to order food from their handpicked cafe (kickbacks, anyone?) we had to wait in the park across the street for over an hour for the guide to finish his coffees. (At the hour mark the waiter put a new drink on the table.) Thankfully, while waiting we figured out that the tour info (the correct portion) is a copy of the Turistik.cl's bus tour info posted online and the actual walking route is the city's heritage walk which is posted on boards in the different plazas (Yungay, for example) with the route map and info in English. We finished the entire walking tour by ourselves hours before the group. Don't waste your time with SpicyChile walking tours, you can see everything on your own much faster and without the misinformation.

We thought that there would be little to see in Barrio Brasil, Concha y Toro and Yungay, but Spicy Tours’ tour of this area proved us wrong.

We joined Spicy Tours on their special tour through the above areas and were truly stunned. Francisco, a relatively new tour guide, was exceedingly knowledgeable, professional and helpful. We had walked through these areas ourselves, but our tour through them brought them to life. We strongly recommend that anyone visiting Santiago attend this excellent tour.

If you want to experience Santiago with the eyes of a local it is an absolute must do for your stay. The tour guide takes you to places a common tourist would never see, but also does not miss the important sights. It was truly awesome.

Daniel was our excellent guide for the morning. He went at our pace, and was happy to answer all our questions, about Chilean history, new and old buildings in Santiago, and life in general in Chile. He also gave us some advice about restaurants to visit and local dishes to try. Wish we had given him a bigger tip as there were only two of us, so he really gave us a private guided tour.
