Owner description: Founded in 1856, Cousino Macul is the only winery in Chile amongst those established in the 19th century that continues in the hands of the original founding family. The company remains 100% under family control, producing limited quantities of fine wines. The mission of Cousino Macul is to produce world-class wines that are unmistakably Chilean, carrying the distinctive character of the Maipo Valley.

“A small family vineyard with knowledgeable guides”
Reviewed June 30, 2012

This small winery is a good contrast to the big ones. We booked the tour through Viator who did a good job with transport, etc. The wine tour was one on one and the guide knew his stuff. The gift of a glass at the end was a nice touch. If you are into wines, this is a recommended vineyard- and not too far from Santiago.

“What a Treat!”
Reviewed June 22, 2012

We arranged a private tour and tasting in advance and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. It's a beautiful winery-about a 15-20 minute taxi ride from La Condes area of Santiago but felt a world away with the vineyards, nice cellars list by candle light and wonderful family history. All the wines are very good and in a variety of price ranges. My favorite was the light Sauvignon Gris, Finis Terrae and the "grande dame" called Lota. After our visit, we ordered their wines with lunch and dinner the rest of our stay in Santiago and will seek them out here in the US. Worth a visit for ambiance, history and wines.

“A colorful history with good wines”

Easy to take metro & then a $5 taxi ride to this winery. Must make reservation . Gorgeous grounds and historic cellars. Good solid wines.

“Enjoyed the visit.”
Reviewed April 20, 2012

My girlfriend had been to this winery with her parents the year before and enjoyed it so she was keen for me to visit. I enjoyed it.

We had not booked ahead but that did not seem to be a problem. The tour guide was very pleasant and gave us some interesting insights into the winery and the family history. We were lucky and got to see the winery at work. It was the end of the grape picking season and we saw the grape selection process at work. During the tour we got to try two of their wines (one white and one read). We suggested to them that it would be better to serve less quantity and more variety so we could try more wines.

Its a nice venue and it is close to town. You can get a taxi (around 2,000 pesos) from the underground/metro station.

The one drawback about this winery is that they are not allowed to provide tastings outside those given during the tour so you have to trust them that the wine is good.

Enjoy!

“Complete lack of education.”
Reviewed February 1, 2012

We are aware of the vineyards of Chile for my guide book, which until now were very polite and always been very well received.
Unfortunately today we decided to visit this "vineyard." We called early to secure place for the tour, because we have too little time on our agenda.
The explanation of the part of the vineyard over the phone was no interest. Poorly explained how to get the vineyard. Even so we had to run behind to get the tour of 16 hours. We left with 2 hours in advance by car from Santiago because them!
The way they explained it was terrible! But we come on time when the tour combined.

!!!!!!!!!To our Surprise at the entrance the doorman told us that we could not enter because we had called before!????? The porter was not to blame. It was entirely the fault of the telephone service and then manages the vineyard. We were impressed with the utter lack of education on the part of the vineyards. How can they do this? They had a huge mistake and not even apologize to?????
Surely we will pass it to various media involved with the wines and tourism.

More important for You readers: Do not waste your time going to this vineyard. There are many much better than this in Chile - I will report here for you.
And the wine is also very weak. We prove!
