I arrived at around 8:30pm after a long bus ride. This was no friendly hostal. Karen, the owner was in a foul mood. She belittled a poor oriental girl for not using the key properly, and two other backpackers were asking for the wifi password and she snapped at them "TO GO UPSTAIRS" finally declaring that the password was on the wall. All this within a 3 minute time span of my arrival. My room was dreadful. It was an airless box. I would never, ever recommend this hostal. Karen needs a course in customer service. If people continue to put up with her rude treatment they need treatment!

I loved this place. It's clear that great care has gone into its design and that the owner is proud and takes care to ensure that things are perfect.

We were welcomed with a lovely big, varied breakfast when we arrived, even though I'd messed up the booking and arrived a month early! They had no problem accommodating us. The beds are big and comfortable (even in the dorms) the showers clean and hot and the dvd collection huge!

One thing, however, prevents me from giving it five stars: that is, the dorms are too open. The main one has too many doors going into it and you have to go through it to get into another one. It makes me feel uncomfortable when you have people walking through that aren't even staying in that room.

But don't let that perturb you. It's still a wonderful place from which to enjoy Bellavista and the rest of Santiago, one of the best cities in South America.

NOTE: on the popular hostel booking websites, the directions from the metro state, "Walk south to the end of the park and turn left onto Manuel Antonio Prieto, number 0184 corner of Seminario Street." But this is not entirely correct. You have to walk PAST the end of the park, a short way down the road at the end, before turning left. It confused me for a while, but then I didn't have a map!

Room Tip: If you don't like people walking through your room all the time, choose a dorm on the side.

which is why we ended up staying for a week. Karen, the owner, is friendly and welcoming. The hostel has the look and atmosphere of a family home complete with artwork on the walls and a disregard for unnecessary rules and regulations. Breakfast is a treat as described by other reviewers and the duvets and hot showers make the place very cosy. Oh, and the dorm is excellent value for money.

This was by far the best hostel we have ever stayed in. It was like sleeping at a friend's house, full of colourful art, Ikea furniture and a kitchen packed with ingredients to cooks with. The host is lovely and speaks wonderful English if you need!

We stayed here primarily cause it was the cheapest place we could find, but it also turned out to be one of the best places we've stayed!!! The breakfast, which is included, is great; yoghurt, cereal, toast, cake and FRESH coffee :-) Karen the owner is lovely, and really makes your stay. Its like staying with family. The living area is really cosy, and has everything you need. The only thing I would say is the mattresses are a little thin, but the duvets and general atmosphere more then make up for it :-)

great place. Its a small hostel where it feels really homely. Karen, the owner is really nice. Breakfast was good. The matress wasn't the comfyest but the feather diver more than made up for it.
