Got an apartment for some 45e a night, from a last-minute booking - amazing price, considering the central location and the fact this is a real apartment, with modern furniture, large comfy bed, sofa, fully equipped kitchen... the photos e.g. on Booking.com are spot on, no tricks, one can get a very good idea about the place.

Santiago Suites are in a large building complex (which has also another entrance from Huerfanos 547), with several companies renting apartments (and yes, some of equally good value), so do not expect any sign on the street - be sure you have the address and the name written down correctly and just show it at the building's reception. They will call somebody to pick you up.

Arrived relatively late in the evening, but a girl from Santiago Suites showed up downstairs almost immediately. Everything was prepared and waiting for me at their office on the second floor - I just paid for the room (credit cards accepted) and after a few minutes, I was on the way to the apartment.

An electronic lock on the door (you get a personal code assigned) means there are no problems with e.g. returning keys if you need to leave for the airport early in the morning.

There is supposed to be a pool in the building - but I did not care much for it, did not even try to find it, so I cannot comment on that one.

Free wifi is available, a big supermarket is in the same building (also from the Merced street side) and a string of reasonably priced cafes and restaurants nearby ("standard" Chilean but also Chinese, Indian and Turkish - and that's only what I saw and visited, there's perhaps more). Metro station Bellas Artes is a five minute walking distance.

Room Tip: Check last-minute offers, you may get an amazing deal for short stays - even mediocre hostels in cen...

Today I had a really interesting experience. I came very exhausted as I was the whole day in the coach starting in Buenos Aires. When I came to the Santiago's bus station I immediately went to the nearest cyber cafe to check which hotel has free places and prices as well. I found this accommodation (Source: Booking.com) for 44 000 pesos for 2 nights.

When I came there there was nothing written that this is some kind of a hotel, so I needed to ask a security for a help. In few minutes came somebody who showed me a room and we agreed we will meet in 20 minutes in his office as I really needed a nice shower.

Afterwards I went to his office and he said to me that for two nights I should pay him 56 000 pesos. I wasn't sure if I saw before a right price so I went online and I asked a guy how come that a price is 56 000 pesos if a booking.com offers the same thing for 12 000 (60$) less?! Usually a person if you book directly even gives you a discount as he doesnt pay a commission!

He said that booking.com didnt actualized prices, so I offered him to pay 50 000 for both night. A guy refused and gave me my money back. He was keeping saying I said to him a lier what was not true, the only thing which I said that it is very interesting situation...

At the end i went to different hotel.

The huge apartment complex is very well situated close to the metro station "Bellas Artes" in the correspondent "super in" district. There is a supermarket (Lider) right outside the building and many nice coffee houses and one of the most famous restaurants (Interludio) in Santiago just around the corner. That is it about the good things of this aparthotel.

The security of the building is as useless as matches on the moon. If they are not chatting with colleagues they ask you to give them all your personal information (I was wondering if they will ask me for my size of shoe next) and forget it literally 5 minutes after that just to ask you again. You will be asked to wait for a staff of the aparthotel to pick you up downstairs. The person was not only slow on the uptake but also rather rude. Do not expect any sympathy for arriving back in Santiago after many hours of driving or a really long flight. The apartment was dirty, small, and noisy - surrounded by permanent residents. All of that was by far not the worst because it is hard to find the right words for the bathroom. The ceiling was black of mould and the metal appliances rusted. There was a toxic smell in the air caused by thousands of spores which led to immediate dyspnoea and tussive irritation. I had to remove a dead cockroach which was smashed on the floor and all wooden parts were swollen which made it hard to close the doors.

I will never stay there again and would suggest everyone to stay far away from this place.

Room Tip: You should rather sleep on the sidewalk than staying in room 717!

This serviced apartment is for someone looking for a cheap place to stay in Santiago with a little bit more privacy than you would find in a hostel. It is located near the metro and there are good restaurants nearby. It is a little bit noise, there are too many apartments. The area close to the Plaza del Armas is very commercial, there is nothing there at night or early in the morning. There are no restaurants in the apartment but you can prepare light meals in the room. There is a super market downstairs. Internet connection is free and good.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less noise from the streets.

My husband and I rented an apartment for a week. It is a lovely nice small apartment for 2, it has a sofa bed in the living room but is better for just 2 persons and maybe a baby, not more. The apartment had a small kitchen and living room, a bed room and a nice size bathroom. The apartment has Small TV, with Wi-Fi and cable. In reference to the cable it was out of service went we got to the apartment, we call for assistance and immediate the cable was installed. Every day they came in and clean the apartment except on Sunday, this was the one small problem because they did not provide us with an extra set of towels for Sunday. The apartment is located inside a big apartment building, with real good security. At the same time it is side by side to a big grocery store, it with you can find everything including a hot homemade bread all day long.
The location was excellent; it was near everything in the city for example, Cerro Santa Lucia Hill, Santa Lucia Craft Market, Main Square of Santiago, The Presidential Palace. It is about 5 minute in taxi to Barrio Bellavista, also one to 3 block to ( a nice place to drink an eat, but is small, it may look like danger getting there but is not) . In the area you can find all types of restaurants from cheap one , hamburger just in front of it, and there is a medium price Indian restaurant ( not open un Sunday , that is why we didn’t try it” . It also has just in front of the apartment a medium price type Peruvian restaurant, in which you can eat a real good “ lomo saltado- red meat with potatoes with species “ “ aji de gallina- this one is made of small pieces of chicken with a yellow pepper” and the typical “ceville- which is a fish cook in lime with species and onion”
The only thing that it may look strange for new travelers to South America, is that the area around the apartment, is not sparking and paint, and at night is a little dark, but is not danger at all, it is like that because is near what is call the old city.
