When we first checked into this place, we thought it was a bit far from Barrio Brasil and Bellavista; both spots we wanted to hang out in the center. But it turns out the Barrio Italia is also one of the "Must Hang Out" spots in Santiago, and the service and location here are great. The owner, Ivan, throws little impromptu asados and is a great guy. They have a nice pool (too cold in October, but much of the year it'd be perfect) and if you want en-suite bathrooms, there are options. We loved it...

Room Tip: we stayed in the cabana (private, back behind the house) and it was great...

A place you want to stay. Ventana Sur Hostel is a place that looks like a friend's house. You're very welcome, Ivan (the owner), spend a few tips as soon as you enter the hostel. Carlos (the staff) is very helpful and polite. And despite having wine night every night, is a very quiet place and you can have a very pleasant night's sleep. I would certainly return more for BBQ. I love this place.

Ventana sur has been the best place for us to start our travels, the staff and manager (Ivan) are very friendly and very patient when helping you pick up Spanish! The hostel is clean, big and has all facilities needed by travellers. It has a good mix of people and you can get involved with rowdy nights If you want to but at the same time you can have a quiet one if you don't feel like it! There is a communal area with a decent tv with english speaking channels and some DVDs but the single and double rooms have tv's too. The reception is 24hr and security is brilliant as you need to be buzzed in. Really was a great place to start our south America travels and had a fantastic night out in nearby bella vista with Ivan leading the way! Will stay there again and again!!!

There are some places you feel like home. Hostel Ventana Sur is one of them. Located in a very quiet neighborhood, just few blocks from a metro station, market, restaurants and Bustamante Park. The place is clean, safe, huge. The house has a pool, garden, nice TV room and dorms where you can stay comfortably and safetly. The owner, Ivan, and his staff make you feel like you're a local. They give you a lot of tips of nice places to visit all over the city. At the hostel you can grab a bike for free and go for a ride in one of the amazing parks of Santiago. Oh... And just don't miss the BBQ night, at fridays. Good food, wine and great conversations by the pool. Hope I'll be back soon. Thank you Ventana Sur's staff for the great and memorable time I've had!!! 8 great days!!!

Friendly service. Quite quiet at night. Clean premises. Dorm rooms (mixed gender) were a little cramped and bunk beds are shaky (6 bed dorm is less cramped). Nice mattresses and bedding. No lockers in rooms, no locks on doors, but there is only room for about 20 people in the hostel so it’s not really a problem. There are small lockers downstairs (about big enough for a day pack). Kitchen has all that is needed for self-caterers, including a fridge. Included breakfast consists of cereal, juice, coffee, tea, bread, jam and butter (breakfast doesn’t start until 8). Dining room and sitting room available as well as chairs and tables outside. There is a laundry service available.
Bathrooms are cleaned several times a day. There are 5 bathrooms, 4 with showers, so there are no lineups for the facilities. Good security – people have to ring the doorbell and be “buzzed” in. It’s about a 30 minute walk to the Plaza de Armas, less to San Cristobal and Santa Lucia. If you choose some of the smaller streets on your walk, there are some interesting houses to see. If you don’t want to walk, there is a subway station very nearby. It may seem a bit out of the way, but it’s quiet because of that. There are quite a few small restaurants, small shops as well as a supermarket, and a bank that accepts foreign cards very close to the hostel.
There is one slow computer for shared use. There is also wifi.
I stayed in the dorm, but the double rooms and single room also looked like good deals.
I would stay there again.
