“Since Carlos Meyer has left it's not half as good as in the past”
Reviewed May 28, 2012

Unfortunately the service as well as the quality of the food is not as I remembered. Nevertheless we wanted to try this after two years again. I was quiet disappointed. I will follow the reviews here and if they are getting better and if i was maybe just there on a wrong day I willl try again.
Winelist is still very good.

“Impeccable”
Reviewed March 5, 2012

Only one word is necessary to describe everything about this restaurant, from the breadth and imagination of the international menu, to the food quality and presentation, to the superb and highly attentive yet unobtrusive service that brings a waiter to your side the instant before you even think you want one. No grass grows under the feet of this highly professional staff who keep a close watch on the entire dining room, anticipating every need. This is hands down the way dining out should be on all counts. A chic yet understated and cozy space provides the setting, with superb design extending even to the hallways and restroom. Perfection, and worth every penny.

“Pay attention you do not get what you pay for!!”
Reviewed February 22, 2012

Such a restaurant where you pay 100 Usd for degustation menu made these mistakes:
1.) they recognized that we were foreigners and gave us an English menu. The menu had unfortunately the information that you can have your degustation menu only for both of us only in Spanish - not that big deal, but consider this level of restaurant...
2.) all the meals were presented by the waiter only in Spanish so we did not always know what we were eating ( unless you have excellent memory and can remember 6 courses of the menu ).
3.) nobody has ever asked us if we were satisfied with the meals and nobody offered for example more bread...
4.) the waiters were like cold robots, very professional but no emotion, no suggestion, no smile...
5.) the name of the last course was " petit four" - nothing more. We thought that it could be a selection of chocolate bonbons or something like that. WE NEVER GOT THAT COURSE!!!
We hoped it could come with the bill, but it did not happen. When we were leaving the restaurant I asked the waiter which course was the petit four and he told me that it should come along with coffee which we did not want. Actually they screwed us...

6.) the kitchen was very good, too pity that they work with such waiters.
Therefore we would NOT return and we do NOT recommend tjis overprised restaurant, you can find in Santiago definitely better ones.

“understated elegance.”
Reviewed February 6, 2012

A classic french restaurant which is understated elegance. In addition to seafood entrees, the kitchen also serves up mouth-watering steak and lamb specialities. Carlos Meyer, the chef and owner of Europeo, he puts all his energy into this constantly awarded and recognized restaurant, and it shows. The food is exquisite. If you are choosing a special night out(arn't they all!) Europeo is a great and dependable choice.

“Fine dining in Santiago”
Reviewed January 12, 2012

Europeo recently changed ownership and we were worried that the level of food and service might have dropped. We did not need to worry. The new owner trained under Chef Mayer for years and seems determined to keep up the good work and the reputation for this fantastic restaurant.

The food is described as French, but don´t expect the classics, it is better described as International, in my opinion, as for example, the Tuna has a delicious red curry sauce and lemon grass skewers.

The service is professional, not chatty or hovering, but sophisticated. We mentioned to our waiter that we wanted to share our entrees and that we were in no hurry. He brought one entree at a time, cleared the first and gave us a small break before bringing the next, which we thought was a great touch.

Mains are between 9,000 and 20,000 ($18 - $40) and don´t miss the impressive Grand Marnier Souffle for 2.

We had 2 entrees, 2 mains and the souffle and there was not one dish that less fantastic than another. One can order with eyes closed!

Only criticism (hopefully management reads this) is the abysmal music. We are not fussy when it comes to music and have very eclectic taste, but the meal (we were there for around 2 1/2 hours) was accompanied by Nora Jones and something that sounded like the Carpenters. Some smarter music choices will greatly enhance the atmosphere.

Ideal for couples (no children), business lunches or a meal with friends. There is a smoking section, but the main part of the restaurant is non smoking and they have just added an outdoor seating area, presumably for pre dinner drinks, or a more casual meal.

We will definitely be back soon.
