La Casa Roja is by far one of the best hostels I have ever. The location is close to La Alameda which is the main boulevard in Santiago. The hostel is also close to several cafes and bars, which is good for a casual night out. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.

Great location and really easy to get into the city. Awesome facilities which included a full kitchen to make meals in house. Friendly and helpful staff. A great choice for young travellers who want a social hostel.

Shortly after arriving I had a bad feeling about the hostel. It was awfully cold, due to the mansion (expected) but very loud. The staff only had heated the room they worked in and the other heaters were broken or left off. After asking about breakfast, we learned it wasn't free like the website stated. While watching futball the staff took over the couches and left the floor or plastic chairs for their guests. The staff was not very knowledgable about tourist information and we received contradicting information about sights, bus times and prices. They had their first sushi night which was completely thoughtless. There was one person making sushi for 40 people. We were told we would eat at 830 but ended up waiting until after midnight. The worst was the lack of respect from other guests which was thought of as ok by the workers in the hostel. A brass band drunkenly started playing through the hallways at 2:30 am, community showers started happening between males and females and broken glass bottles were smashed on the bathroom floor. Not once were these guests asked to stop from the workers; only from hostel guests. Generally I am very easy going with hostel situations but I would never go back here or recommend it to friends.

we have breakfast included just for privates, that's clear in every site
taff and passengers are the same for us, we are all part of the family is not that they are taking your seats away
we have a hand guide at front for all the turistic points in the area so all of our guests can get good information, besides, lonely planet is the best guide for backpackers.
sushi nigths is a gift for us to our guests, part of our staff is the chef, others at the bar, others playing some good music, time depends on how the activity and the good vibes go during we get to meet with others, it is not a restaurant.
drunk people most of the time doesnt behave, some young travelers get drunk easily that's why we just made an inside bar so we keep people who want to party in the bar area so we dont disturb others sleep.
different points of view...
good luck in your next destiny anyway!

Spent three nights there. The hostel has a good localization, very close to city center and metro station. The staff is friendly and prices are ok. Otherwise, the rooms are dark anda a little bit dirty, the bathrooms were very dirty, and when I was there one of them were closed. The last night was too noisy, as well.

we apologize about the bathrooms, we are working in a lot of details that were not in the best shape to receive our guests and bathroom are main topic on the list before summer time when we get full of people around the house therefore the offer prices at all of our rooms.

great if you're not too too picky although not horrible if you are. I would recommend it to younger folks. They provide sheets but one must pay to rent a towel or adaptar.... also they ran out of locks for the personal cubbies when I was there -- rather troubling. otherwise lovely, community-oriented place with helpful staff and friendly visitors.

we have towel rental and key deposit for the room key, a lot of guests collecting keys from chile at the hostel I guess haha, but anyway there is 1 locker for each passenger to keep your belongings and safe boxes at reception for money or passport in case you want to have them more secure

This is a really good hostel for meeting new people and socializing. There is an outdoor bar and pool, which is awesome in the summer. Good value for money, and the location is particularly good. Definitely recommended!

I stayed at la casa roja for 3 nights and wouldn't recommend it.

The building itself is lovely and very charming. The room we were in kind of smelt musty. The location is not great. Not the best side of town to visit the touristy areas. The area seemed safe to walk around and never had an issue in that regard.

The staff here are not good - they are nice people but as most of them semi live in the hostel rather than being a full time job, they don't take it seriously! Which is annoying when you check in and it takes over 20 minutes to check in as the staff are talking to each other, googling things on the internet.
There is always someone asleep on the couch where the main common area is.
Breakfast is only included for private rooms (there is an option to pay extra). The first morning we went down to get breakfast, it was frantic as the girl had 3/4 orders and was in a complete fluster and said it would take 40-50 minutes - all that needed to be done was cook some eggs, chop some fruit(which should be prepared ahead of time) and boil a kettle! This was at weekends, the lady during the week was good.

well you are not coming to a non stop party neighbourhood, this is a patrimonial area rich in its history and a culinary enviroment the most turistik stops for someone interested in the culture of Santiago. for a bigger budget you can find hotels in any area I hardly reccommend them to you sounds like hostels do not match your profile
good luck!
