This was one of the worst hostels I have stayed in. I heard great things about this hostel. And if you have too, my advice is not to believe any of it.

I had some trouble with my reservations so I emailed the hostel. When I didn't hear back after a couple of days, I called them. Only, they never seem to pick up the phone.

The staff are incredibly rude and unhelpful. I requested an airport transfer. When it became apparent that I did not want to go with their private shuttle company, they refused to help me book with another company. Fine, fair enough.

But when I was having trouble making a phone call so that I could reserve my own airport transfer, I asked for help with dialing a Chilean phone number. Once again, they flat out refused to help.

With breakfast, you need to submit a ticket to the lady in the kitchen. Once breakfast is ready, you pick it up. Only, the tables are so far away from the kitchen, you can't hear your name being called!

Casa Roja seems more concerned with quantity (of guests) over quality (of service). It is sized like a large hotel, but staffed like a small hostel.

The staff members should be taught basic customer service skills.

The only good thing about the hostel is that the private room was very large and very nice. The shared showers... that's another story.

Really lovely hostel with very nice bathrooms and spacious bedrooms. Decent price but atmosphere is good but not great, the place is BIG and WIDE and therefore people often become sparse and dont chat and become communal together as much. The living areas are great and have heaters as it is cold in winter due to its size and the kitchen is good to chat but was only cosy if you found the right spots. The pictures are a little misleading as the kitchen is massive with good facilities but not cleaned or updated so old ovens, stoves etc. They organise well priced ski trips and the staff are proper friendly and helpful. All in all it was good and fitted the bill for what it was needed for. A good stay.

I stayed here for one night on a layover and was very impressed. The hostel was beautiful, the staff helpful, and the pool very enjoyable! I stayed in a single room with ensuite bathroom, and it was really lovely. Made a miserable layover much more enjoyable!!

La Casa Roja is a beautifully restored old mansion. It has every facility a backpacker or virtually anyone travelling could want - lots of common areas (indoor & outdoor) with comfy couches, a bar (out the back so you can't hear it), travel agent, helpful staff, WIFI, computers, comfy beds, hot showers, clean shared bathrooms. And to top it all off the most amazing and giant kitchen I've ever seen :-) you can literally cook up a feast!
Only have one complaint - We stayed in a dorm the first night (7), it was lovely & spacious however the noise from other inconsiderate guests kept us awake all night. The thing that annoyed me was that it wad right around the 24hr reception but none of the staff did anything to make these people keep it down. There needs to be an enforced curfew!
Otherwise the double room was really nice, could do with a mirror though.
Thanks la casa Roja, see you again soon!
