Stayed 2 nights in this B&B and really liked it.
The room was colorful and quiet.
It is centrally located, within walking distance of the Plaza de Armas, restaurants in Bellavista and metro station.
Staff is friendly and helpful.
Breakfast is excellent, with fresh juice, fruit, yogurt, bread, cheese, jam and coffee/tea.
They have wifi, but it didn't reach my room in the backside of the house.
But there are also 2 pc's which can be used.

Room Tip: Stayed in room #38 (double), which is on the backside. Think this is the best room. It is quiet and...

my apologies for not posting this comment earlier [lack of access to the internet] - but i am finally able to extol the wonderful virtues of this totally friendly/relaxing/clean/comfortable/safe/etc etc etc family run hotel - location..location..location ..it works at every level and so inexpensive - do yourself a favour and enhance your enjoyment of santiago by staying here [and if you get a balcony overlooking the main street you can sit back and watch the local 'drag racing' every evening]

Room Tip: all the room have double glazed windows - so

Great location, great old building, very well managed by the family thats on duty all the time (they open the door for you personally). Had a small single room with everything I needed. Views of Argentinian embassy/really affordable. Dont expect internet to work everywhere and you'll be 100% satisfied.

I stayed 3 nights at Rio Amazonas and I really enjoyed it. The place is absolutely great, lots of character, beautiful decoration, airy, quiet, nice lounge/bar, 2 computers for the guests, and ideally located in downtown Santiago, close to metro station Baquadeno, 10 mns walking distance from Museo de Bellas Artes or Plaza de Armas. But this is not enough to rate it as the best place to be in Santiago. What makes really the difference with another place ? The STAFF !! And at Rio Amazonas the staff is wonderful : friendly, helpful, smiling, professional. What else can you ask for ? I will be back in Santiago early January, then early February, and I have already booked my room !!

I stayed one night at Rio Amazonas in Santiago. This hostal is a converted tutor mansion. I had a main floor double room (book early if you wish to have a single room). This is a family run establishment, and you can tell! The family is very kind and conserned about the well-being of their travelers. They were very helpful guiding me and organizing my airport pickup. Breakfast was good and the other travelers were friendly from all walks of life. The propriator knew from memory where we were from and introduced people at breakfast to start conversation! There is heat during designated hours. The showers are heated, but not hot. The room was simple with a small TV. I had to stay in a double room though i was a single traveler as there were no single rooms available. The prices are a little higher than what I would normally pay, but the location was nice and it seemed worth it to me to ensure that I had place to stay before departing the USA that had a cenral location. It is just off Plaza Italia near Banquedano metro station, within 5 minutes walking of many restaurants and important sights (cerro san cristobal, Pablo Neruda's home in Santiago etc.). I would recommend this place and stay there again.

There is also free luggage storage as many flights don't leave Santiago to the USA and Canada until later in the evening. You will need to check out by 11, but you won't need to worry about your luggage.

Room Tip: Book early to ensure you get a single room.

Right next door to the Argentinian embassy and a short walk to the main street and restaurant scene this bed and breakfast has friendly and informative staff. Rooms are brightly coloured, simple but more than adequate for a stay in Santiago. They serve a good breakfast, have a nice lounge/bar area and two computers with good internet signals. We used this property for a one night stay on arrival into Chile and then rebooked it for our overnighter before flying home after our trip. On our second visit we arrived at 1am in the morning but it was no problem and we were quickly shown to our room by the night watchman. The service both times was consistent and nothing was a problem.

Room Tip: Both times we stayed in Room 14 which was in the rear so noise wasn't an issue, I suspect that a...

Stayed here in Dec. 2011. My wife and I really enjoyed it. Helpful staff, good food, nice location. It's on a busy boulevard but the windows facing the street were sound proof. They have a nice little bar downstairs and they even fixed me a late night beer and sandwich. Good stuff.
