We had a great three days at the Villarica Park Lake. The facility is very nice, very well kept up, and the staff was exceedingly helpful in creating activities for us. In particular, Rodrigo (I think), the person in charge of activities, seemed very knowledgeable, and set us up with great excursions from the hotel. We ate our breakfast and all three dinners at the hotel, and were quite happy with the food, if not overwhelmed.

Our modus operandi is to try to have a big breakfast and then set up an outdoor activity for most of the rest of the day, and then come back to the hotel for some kind of beverage and then dinner. On the day of our arrival, Rod set us up with the brand new mountain bikes the hotel had (2) and gave us directions to a good ride. We were lucky enough to have rented a pick-up so we threw the bikes in the back and drove the 20 minutes to the ride.

Which is the rub.

The hotel is beautiful, and ideally (and almost uniquely in Pucon) set down a short access road right on the lake. However, the entrance for the hotel is located on the busy Villarica-Pucon lakeside road, and it is about 10K from Pucon. You would not want to ride a mountain bike on that road. (So, if we didn't have a truck we probably would have rented bikes in Pucon.)

The next day Rod set us up to hike up Mt. Villarica with Sol y Nieve. While we needed to be in Pucon at 6:30, which was a chore, that was one of the only un-fun parts of the full day we had. We were lucky with weather, and the experience was terrific.

The following day, Rod set us up with half-day horseback ride at a stable about a 45-minute drive from the hotel (again, passing Pucon on the way). Again, this experience was terrific.

So, we had a great time and enjoyed our room, the pool and dining rooms a great deal. And, the wi-fi was great, which was not something I could say about many stops on our two-week trip.

Finally, being so far from Pucon is a dual-edged sword. We are not 20-somethings, and the vibe we got from the town was that it would be a great place to stay while studying abroad or traveling after college. We did not feel we missed much by staying outside, other that needing to drive the 10-minutes past town fairly regularly. And, I definitely wouldn't stay there without a car.

The hotel was a terrible disappointment. We had booked for two nights but left in just one!!
The hotel is in shambles and not at all worth the price it quotes! The pillows and linen stink. We requested for fresh pillows thrice but they just didn't seem to understand. Our room was right below the restaurant and the noise of walking/stomping kept up late into the night. We requested them to do something about it but they just refused to acknowledge us!
At the checkout, all they had to say was 'sorry'. That's it. Nothing more!
The rooms are in a bad condition and the furniture is old and ugly. The breakfast selection was quiet limited. The staff cleans the tables by simply pushing everything off the table and on the floor!!
Its not worth being a luxury hotel and no wonder SPG luxury collection pulled out of it.

I stayed at the Villarica Park Lake for 2 Nights at a time where it with almost empty. Even with the lack of guests one week before the national holiday, the Resort was fully staffed and this was demonstrated through their excellent service.

The Rooms are luxuriously appointed and feature relatively fast Wi-Fi speeds. The decor is modern country which is suitable in light of the environment in which it resides. The View over Lake Villarica is second to none.

The Breakfast was decent, featuring a variety of cereals, fruits, hams, cheeses, breads and of course Pancakes/Eggs etc.

The fine-dining restaurant is very nice and not that overly priced. I ate there twice and enjoyed myself thoroughly.

I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Beautiful terrace right next to the lake, good bar and tapas, staff was very helpful, Ceviche was the best with Pisco Sour. The bedroom is very spacious, bed with soft pillows and amazing view to the lake, we didn't have wifi for 2 days and TV only is in Spanish. We have visited this place twice and if we ever come back here we'll choose this place again , good experience

Wonderful location. Rooms overlook the lake. Indoor and outdoor pool, with a full service spa on site. Nice outdoor sitting area overlooking the lake and a volcano. The room was spacious, and the bathroom was clean and well appointed. Wonderful buffet breakfast with lots of choices. Excellent service by the friendly and helpful staff.
