We had a short stay in Valdivia and we arrived very late at the hotel. Restaurant open, not great food but better than the average in this region of Chile, that was a plus already. Room in the new building, neat, comfortable, spacious. With more time we would have enjoyed the river a bit better, so our stay could have been better but not for anything missing in the hotel.
Price reasonable to what is offered in this hotel.

Room Tip: When checking in the reception told me "new wing has better view (river)". There was a vie...

I stayed 13 nights in this interesting hotel, a mixture of very old biilding (the main one - reception, restaurant) made arround 1900, a twoo levels hotel probably made arround 60th and amother ome with three levels madr arround 70th. The rooms actually has teoo stars (cleN but without a refrigerator). During the cold nights you will hear very much the radiators, but the view it is perfect!

We had a very pleasant stay at Hotel Naguilan. It was perfect for our two year old son. He had a place to run around outdoors and the staff were very friendly to him. We stayed in the regular rooms and they were spacious albeit simple. You can catch the local bus to town, 400 clp per person and they come by quiet frequently. I would say one of the highlights was taking the solar powered ferry, one day up the river the other day down the river.

The hotel was located next to the river and we could watch the boat traffic from the veranda. It was within walking distance to the central shopping area. The open air market on Saturday was a lot of fun.

The staff was exceptional. The front desk clerk took the initiative to double check our flight information and found a significant change in our itinerary. This change had not been emailed to us. The clerk made sure we made our new flight connectons. She basically got us home on time.

Room Tip: Get a room with a river view.

My husband & I were delightfully surprised staying here one night while in Valdivia. We stayed in the standard accommodation, not the newer, terraced superior rooms, which we found completely adequate. The 2nd floor views over the river are very nice. The rooms are large & comfortable. It's an easy 20 minute walk into town through neighborhoods with very interesting & varied architecture. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant to avoid driving back into downtown & what a surprise & joy! We had the loco & tomato salad which was the best loco of our entire trip! Their homemade pastas are fantastic. My husband had the Ecudorian shrimp & pasta & I had merluza over pesto gnocci. There is a very good wine selection as well.

Room Tip: If you stay in the standard room, stay upstairs for better views of the river traffic

A very good value hotel. Beautiful river setting. We stayed in the new annex of this traditional hotel. Very good breakfast and a decent restaurant available. Good clean rooms and en suite bathroom with hot water. There is an outdoor pool but the weather was wrong for us. Quiet relaxing place.

I was hoping Valdivia would be a nice spot to spend a day or two, and we (husband & wife in our 60s) ended up staying for 4 days, mainly because we liked the Hotel Naguilan so much. Crisp sheets, nice bathroom, good restaurant -- unobtrusive service, at a very reasonable price. The rooms all face the river, across a lawn and patio, then to a close, pristine island. The setting, once you're there is quiet and somehow intimate with nature, while being 20 blocks from the city center.
We had a car, and so we mainly drove there from the various points in downtown and around, but our last day we walked from the Naguilan into downtown, and it took about 20 minutes, during which we discovered a nice street market, a remnant of an old fortification, and the provincial courts. We were still wandering around Chile for another few weeks, so I asked the folks at the desk (in my clunky Spanish) if the owners had any other similar hotels that we could aim for. Nope; this is it. I didn't really want to leave, but Valdivia's points of interest are limited, and there were other parts of Chile that we hadn't seen yet.

Room Tip: We had the upstairs, near-corner room, across a walkway from the restaurant. It had windows on two...
