“Lovely Hotel”

I went to this hotel in my vacation in august 2009. I loved all the things there. The service is perfect, and the place is romantic is good to go there for Honey moon.
I´ll return someday because was the best one in all the trip that I took in Chile.

I stayed at the hotel with two family members in a triple room. The service was great, the breakfast was very good, and the room was excellent. If you want to be in a noisy area, this is not for you. But if you want to sleep a lot, relax, and be close to downtown, this hotel is only a 5 minute car ride from Puerto Varas downtown. I would definitely stay there again. It is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for, for sure.

This hotel was nice, but overpriced for what you got. I booked a king size room and when we got there the only room they had available was two doubles. Breakfast was average. The hotel advertises the whirlpools but you'll find out when you get there that you have to pay $20 to use them! We paid extra for a lake view, but the view was obstructed by a tree so it didn't really count. Also - they started doing construction on the hotel at 8AM and woke us up!

We ended up going back to Puerto Varas a few days later and stayed at a brand new hotel called Solace right down the road, more modern amenities, better breakfast, closer to town and $40 less!

After reading the reviews here, we were looking forward to a pleasant stay after a long day on the lake crossing from Argentina, cruising past the majestic volcanoes.

On entering our reserved lake view room, we were delighted to see the panoramic corner window. Rushing to the window for a view of Volcano Osorno at sunset, we saw - a clump of trees, completely blocking most of the lake view, including both volcanos. (See photos.)

Aside from the view, the room was large, with a huge, comfortable bed, adequate bathroom, tiny safe, and good refrigerator. The self-service breakfast was barely adequate, with one hot dish - scrambled eggs with ham.

The day desk clerk was friendly but spoke no English. The evening clerk spoke English, but couldn't find any maps of the town. All in all, the staff was really nice, but not prepared to be a lot of help.

The wifi access was good in the seating area by the elevator on our floor, but did not work in the room. (I think it was free.) Our magnetic key cards stopped working and had to be reprogrammed several times. Laundry prices were quite reasonable, but we got it back pretty late, well into the evening.

Although advertised as convenient to downtown, and a block from the lake, the location isn't that good. Yes, it's a block from the lake, but up a hill, so it's a three block walk to get to the lake. The hotel is on a noisy street, and a twenty minute walk from downtown. That said, there isn't that much downtown, so the best thing about it is the walk to it - nicer if you take the lake or hill paths across the street than along the street itself. The park on the other side of downtown looked like it might be nice, but it was too much further to bother.

The hotel restaurant is excellent, and a good thing too because there isn't any alternative nearby. Tip: Ask the owner to make ice cream for you at your table; you get to choose the flavor, or even create it.

  • Liked — Great restaurant
  • Disliked — Inconvenient location; "lake view" was really a tree view

Hotel Puelche is a first rate facility, exceeded only by its first rate staff. I failed to get his name, but the doorman/bellhop was particularly helpful during my stay.

It is true that the hotel isn't right in the city center. But Puerto Varas is small, and the short walk is pleasant. The distance really is not an issue (except perhaps for those with specific health issues preventing them from short walks). It is worth noting that the hotel is steps away from the excellent restaurant Imperial 605.

Just a note if you don't speak Spanish -- the hotel has cable TV with several channels in English. Of course, you probably won't be spending your time in Puerto Varas watching TV!

This really is an exceptional small hotel, and I recommend it 100%.

We stayed here for two nights at the start of our trip (we joined the Navimag south, and drove back through Chile and Argentina). And another night at the end of the trip

It is a much better bet than staying in Puerto Montt. The hotel has astounding views across the lake and to the snowcapped volcanoes in the distance (do ask for a lake view room)

Our room was large and had those views. Mind you there were clear blue skies so everything was that much more uplifting!

The hotel is on the edge of town, but it is only a short walk in to the shops and other restaurants. We ate in the hotel restaurant and can recommend it.

As others have said, the staff are helpful and keen to be of assistance.

Yes, definitely a hotel to recommend.

The Hotel Puelche fulfilled all our expectations and more. When we arrived our room was not ready so we were sat down and brought tea and cakes to pass the time, these were on the house and were delicious. The staff on reception were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The bedroom and bathroom were first class and we had a balcony with superb views over the lake and volcano. We arrived back late one evening and decided to eat in the hotel restaurant and again the food and service was excellent. We wished we could have taken this hotel with us for the rest of our holiday in Chile it was so good.
