There are many things to like about Hotel Cabana Del Lago but the top one is the service. Everyone is very friendly and helpful, but the highest honor goes to Mary Sanchez, the concierge who speaks excellent English.
First about the hotel. The hotel is situated above the lake with excellent views both from various sitting areas and from the rooms. The rooms are comfortable but a bit small. We had a very small room the first night but were moved to a larger room the second night. We paid $200 the first night for a room because we had booked it on the Internet and $104 the second night for a larger room which was their rack rate. I suggest you call rather than booking it on line. The water is not very hot so do not anticipate a hot shower. We were unable to get the Internet in our room while we were here but we could get it in the common areas. They also have about 4 computers you can use in the lobby.
The restaurant is also very good with excellent service and nice views of the lake. We started with Chilean sea bass ceviche which was excellent. My husband had Chilean sea bass as a main course and I had Oso Bucco. The sea bass was not like Chilean sea bass in the U.S but more like a regular sea bass, fairly thinly cut and cooked well done. We thought it was overcooked. The Oso Bucco was nice with a nice sauce. We had their most expensive Carmenere (about $34 US) which was excellent. The meal with tip was about $75. Great value.
The second night we ate in their bar, had the same bottle of wine and empanadas and ceviche. It was very good and the service was excellent.
I also had a massage which was excellent (about $60 U.S.)
Just a bit more about Mary Sanchez. We had lost the papers for our reciprocity fee although we had already entered Argentina and had our passports stamped. We were supposed to take the lake crossing to Bariloche but the tour company would not let us go because we did not have the paper. Mary spent about 5 hours helping us to sort it out and making sure there was another room at the hotel so we could stay another night. She really went above and beyond the call of duty
