We stayed here for two nights in December 2012 - which were actually two different stays, as we went to Chiloé in between. For some reason, the room we had the second time around was (at the same price) much larger and more comfortable than the first one, which however was still good enough.

The rooms are nice and clean, nothing to complain about here. They have a good breakfast buffet, too.

The location is not very central, the main square (around which most of the bars and restaurants are) is within a (roughly 10 minutes) walking distance though.

Staff are nice and friendly, as one would expect from a professionally run large scale hotel. Our only request, a taxi to the airport in Puerto Montt, was handled without any problems.

This is a hotel that was built in the 1940s and has been remodeled. It has become very nicely decorated with parts of poems written on the walls. Rooms are very spacious with high ceilings. Service is very friendly and small problems were addressed very promtly. Lake view rooms should be preferred at a small overcharge. My only problem was with the, very nice, bar where they accept smokers, while the rest of the hotel is nonsmoking.. The sign at the door reads "Smokers Wellcome"! I wrote a note saying that is regreatable that they do not wellcome nonsmokers. Furthermore, it is a pity they have not set up a near by room where you can have the wellcome drink without being smoked.

Stayed for one night while passing through. The standard rooms are larger than many luxury rooms at major hotels. The staff is terrific and grounds are lovely. Easy to walk into town. Would absolutely recommend.

My husband and I stayed here for a few nights in January. The
hotel is situated on a small hill above the town, and has a great
view out over the lake and volcano. The public spaces- the terrace, the
libraries, bar, and other lounging spots are very inviting and stylish.
Our room was large and comfortable. Ask for a room with a lake view.
The hotel shop had nice products that would make good souvenirs.
Breakfast buffet was excellent with lots of fresh fruit and tons of options.
One small gripe- housekeeping did not replace the bottled water after the first
day. Puerta Varas is a great town to walk around with lots of cute shops and good
restaurants. We really enjoyed being there.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view.

We stayed here for only one night pre cruise and wished that it could have been more.

Outside appearance of the building is not very promising but once inside the makeover is most impressive. The staff were most welcoming and helpful at all times. The room, although quite small, was comfortable and had lake/volcano views. Dining was good, both in the evening and at breakfast.
Location is good. On the hillside with great views over the town, lake and volcano.

This is a lovely situated hotel , modern interior with spacious rooms , exquisite view of the lake and a good breakfast. Unfortunately we had been deliberately ripped off by a receptionist when we asked her to reserve a Treetop Zipline trip for us. She phoned , told us it has been organised and she also arranged a driver , Maurice , for our transport - his tariff would be
US$ 60. He drove us about 10 km to a dilapidated farmhouse where a lax cable was connected between 2 trees. After some shouting a woman appeared , speaking only Spanish shaking her head ,saying her husband went to town and we had to wait. Very unhappy we returned to the hotel where we paid the US$ 60 for the "trip" When we confronted A********* , she implied it was an unfortunate mistake as the Zipline venue was just up the road - almost walking distance from the hotel!! However - she was the one who organised the US$ 60 transport for us - obviously in on the deal. A hotel and its staff of this repute , should be above these kind of dishonest treatment of guests ! Therefor ,nice hotel , but beware the sneaky staff.

Lodging offer in Puerto Varas is plenty, but make no mistake. No matter they tell toy this other or that other hotel is the newest or the whatever, the Patagonico is by far the best. It is a large 1940's built, 3 level, totally renovated building; Very ample hallways, lobby, staircases, allpublic spaces. Even when it's full it won't feel cluttered. Rooms and bathrooms are large by any standard, not one of them is equal to another. 40 inch flat screen w/cable TV, however no DVD, no ppv. Business center is large but is dark and has just 2 ancient computers and you need to print at the front desk (prior sending your doc by email). Breakfast (included as in all hotels in Chile) is great, there's everything including your eggs á la carte. Terrace, views, pool vies are great. Also is the indoor swimming pool & spa.Don't be put off by comments on the distance to town enter. Its really a less than 10' walk.

Stayed in Nov 2011 for 3 nights, had done so before and definitely will do it again.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a room overlooking the lake; otherwise facing south (the train station). Oddly...
