We had a great stay at Casa Kalfu, great service, yummy breakfast and spectacular views. The rooms are wonderfully appointed and the staff makes it a priority to make you feel at home. Although not in the center of town, it is well located between downtown and the beautiful beach bordwalk section of Puerto Varas. A magical city, and a great place stay while exploring it

Casa Kalfu is really charming. It was decorated really nicely and felt homey rather than "hotely." I'm guessing the decor was meant to be German, but it reminded me more of a Scandanavian lodge. The rooms were nice, along with a helpful staff - there's not much to complain about. I would recommend this place for sure.

Also, there's a nice cafe/restaurant less than a block away called The Gringa. Good soups, salads, sandwiches, coffee, juice, and wine. The downtown area is probably a 10 or so min walk away. Check out another restaurant called Cassis near the beach/pier on the main downtown road.

So, this is for those looking for a clean, friendly, and very comfortable place, a 5 minute walk from center of town, and the lake. We were budget conscience, and we were very happy with everything. Yes, there are fancier places to stay in PV,but for us we thought it was just perfect.

We loved Puerto Varas, and Casa Kalfu just topped it off! It is an easy walk from town and on a slight hill, but a great sight. The staff and owner, (Horatio) are very friendly and helpful. We arrived without our luggage (it ended up on a different flight to us) and Horatio was fantastic in phoning the airline and getting them to make sure it was being sent on.

The room was lovely - lots of natural would and artisan decorations, acomfy big bed and a hot ensuite shower. The rest of the accommodation was similar, the communal area was full of books and interesting decorations. Breakfast was substantial and yummy.

I discovered this place through Trip Advisor and would definitely recommend it to others!

Casa Kalfu is a very comfortable hostal in a renovated and extended traditional wooden shingle house, one street from the shores of Lake Llanquihue. On a fine day it has good views to the Osorno Volcano from some rooms. The owners, Horacio and Carmen, have furnished it in a quirky and eclectic style, creating a very cosy and homely atmosphere with nice lounge and bar area. It's rooms are a reasonable size with private bathrooms and very clean. Breakfasts include fresh fruit salad, eggs made to order, and home made cake along with usual cheese ham and sweet cereal. It's a bit of a hike to the centre (approx. 15 minute walk) but there are a few cafes nearby (try La Gringa). The staff, particularly Horacio, are very helpful with suggestions of where to eat, tours worth taking, arranging transfers etc. Some of the night staff don't speak English. Great place to stay for a few days.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher levels have better views.

A bit far from the centre, but if you're driving this is not a problem.
Calm neighbourhood and nice lake view.
