“Gorgeous design, friendly staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2011

Beautiful hotel set on a quiet hill near Puerto Varas. Unlike anything else in town, and an incredible restaurant on-site. Staff extremely friendly and English-speaking. Pro and con is that the hotel is a bit outside of the main drag of Puerto Varas. During high-season, the town is crazy full of tourists and day-trippers, so this is a good thing. But it also means you'll need to be prepared to walk (which is nice), drive, or beg a ride from the very obliging owner, Michael. Michael was also very flexible and understanding with us when we had to reschedule our reservations a few times, which I appreciated. Don't miss dinner at Aleli, the restaurant. We ate there twice, both times excellent.

We spent 2 nights here, and , as the other reviewers say, it is an amazing modern building, beautifully situated overlooking the lake. Perhaps we are too old to appreciate it, but we found the bedroom a bit stark- plain white walls, concrete floors, and no furniture apart from the bed and a small bedside table. To store clothes were a few reclaimed planks as shelves. and a tiny hanging rail, with nowhere to put suitcases etc. The bed was comfortable and we did sleep well- when we had worked out how to turn the heating off
The owner was lovely, and extremely helpful, letting us print our boarding passes, and giving us excellent directions and advice for day trips. He also got up to get our( superb) breakfast at 6, as we had an early flight from Puerto Montt. We ate in the restaurant both evenings , and the food was good- not much choice though , and the menu didn't change at all , so we were a bit restricted on the second night. WIne cellar was well stocked,
All in all we enjoyed our stay- we just wanted a wardrobe!

My husband and I recently stayed here for only 1 night (unfortunately as we were transiting to somewhere else). As others have said the architecture is very modern - just as shown on the web site. We had a suite (bedroom and separate sitting room) - all rooms have sweeping views over the lake. The staff (/ owners who seem to have a very hands on role in running the hotel) were so helpful and friendly - really going out of their way to help us including picking us up at a bus stop in the town even though we did not know the exact time or location of our arrival.

We had an excellent dinner (and breakfast) in their restaurant - with some excellent Chilean wine which the manager/owner helped us select.

Next time we would definitely stay longer and explore the surrounding area.

We were lucky enough to stay at the Arrebol for 4 nights in October 2010 during a leisure trip. The style of this hotel is unique. You must see it! My room was good-sized with excellent views, spotlessly clean. Staff is extremely courteous and efficient.
Thank you very much
Ricardo

I chose this hotel after reading reviews and seeing their amazing website. This shows off the incredible design of this hotel with a huge range of pictures that my own camera cannot match at all.

One of the family who own the property is an architect and has used old reclaimed wood from traditional German settler houses to face the property in a unique style. They have even used reclaimed tree trunks from ancient fallen trees to fashion items such as the reception desk and furniture. His brother is the day to day manager and was around during my stay making me feel very welcome.

The hotel is peaceful - not a TV in sight in the rooms - HURRAH! You can just sit and relax in the bar/lounge or out on your own balcony and really soak up the atmosphere of the lake at Puerto Varas. If you want the town itself, it is a short drive or about a 30 minute walk into town. The bedrooms are simply furnished and the beds are very comfortable, I had three amaxing sleeps there wth no noise and complete peace and quiet. Good bathrooms too with excellent shower.

Food is served in the restaurant, healthy breakfasts are included, however if you want dinner then just book into the in house restaurant. I ate once there in the evening and it was superb, a really interesting menu and very high quality. I enjoyed a gorgeous bottle of Chilean red cabernet from the cellar as well as excellent personal service during my meal.

The hotel is in a great location, allowing you to easily drive on the lake shore to Ensenada, the Osorno Volcano and beyond. There is lots to do in season if you are into adventure sports, riding and so on. You can also get into Puerto Varas of north around the other side of the lake.

This property is for those who want something a little more discerning. It is homely, yet design led. If you want entertainment, go elsewhere. If you want busy groups and bustling atmosphere, go elsewhere. But if you want quality, high standards and somewhere that looks like no other hotel you have ever seen, then come here and stay.

I loved it and when I return in a couple of years time to spend longer in the lakes I would love to come back here for my stay.

The Arrebol has everything:- beautiful architecture, amazing use of timber and natural designs are displayed throughout the hotel, staff with whom it was alway a delight to deal with and an amazing family who own and manage this gorgeous hotel.

We stayed in the exec suite and had an amazing view of the lake and at night the view got even better as the city lights flickered on the lake. The meals at the restaurant were exquisite and the breakfast divine...my tastebuds were in heaven....

So, to staff & management we would like to thank you again for an exceptional stay at the Arrebol Patagonia Hotel.

If you want, a beautiful small boutique hotel where the staff knows your name and goes beyond the call of duty in terms of service, this is the hotel for you. Of the 5 hotels we stayed at during our 2 week trip to Argentina, Chile, & Uruguay, Arrebol Patagonia was by far the best. Three things you should know if your considering it… 1) The architecture is amazing. The architect (one of the owners of the hotel) leveraged building materials from the surrounding area to create a hotel that feels like a piece of Patagonia. The website will you give you a sense of it, but in person, much more impressive. The rooms are good size, have a balcony that is perfect to sit on and drink wine (we did this twice), and the bathroom was one of the nicest of all the hotels in which we stayed. 2) The service was the best I’ve had at any hotel in years… Hands down amazing. Both in terms of providing the local scoop on what is best to see/do with limited time (and helping facilitate it) and in the traditional hotel services (i.e. bar, restaurant, etc.). Seriously, most accommodating staff I’ve had at a hotel in as long as I can remember. It was wonderful. 3) Restaurant & bar were great. Very small, very intimate, & very attentive. The restaurant only has a few tables (probably 6 at max) and way exceeded my expectation. It was one of our best meals, especially hard to believe when you realize you are at the doorstep of Patagonia by a rustic town on a lake with an overshadowing volcano… Easily compared to top-notch restaurants in Chicago or Dallas. Even the breakfast had homemade pastries… Very good.

Important to note that in terms of location, it’s a short cab ride (3-4 min) from the town. We walked to the town with no issue (20 min), and there are good restaurants (sushi, Italian, Chilean, etc.) on the lakefront a short walk (5 min) from the hotel, but it’s not in the town. With that said, the town of Puerto Varas is not exactly where you want to stay (think rustic and sleepy) and the hotel can set up everything in terms of adventure. One last comment… We went canyoning through a service in town that the hotel is familiar with. If you have a day or half-day to burn, do this. It was mind-blowing.

Hope this helps. Love this site… We use it all the time.

Best regards,
Scott Cohen
