“Hostel Geronimo is excellent in every way. Don't miss it if you are in Pucon.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 24, 2010

Hostel Geronimo scores high in every category. The lovely woman in charge named, Eleana, was especially kind, friendly and helpful. The rest of the staff is also friendly and helpful. The hotel is charming and beautiful ..... filled with lovely, comfortable furnishings and beautiful woods. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, very clean, and beautifully decorated. The rooms on the backside have views of the volcano. Breakfast is served in a lovely, bright, and large room. Scrambled eggs are served along with cheeses, meats, kuchen, fresh juice and fruits. And, there is a bar that is open later in the day. Drinks are served inside the bar or outside on the patio in front of the Hostel. Pucon is a small town and Hostel Geronimo is within easy walking distance of everything including the bus station. The town reminded us of some of the small towns in the Rocky Mountains of the US. In addition to the incredibly beautiful lake and volcano, there are good restaurants, artesanal markets and outdoor activities. Hostel Geronimo is a great value for your money,

When looking for a place to stay in Pucon, look no further than the Geronimo. I have stayed there numerous times and love it. Johana the owner is very helpful. I live in Santiago and go often to Pucon to chill and enjoy the outdoor activities. Pucon has a Lake Tahoe/Aspen feel as a visitor or resident. There are over 20 outdoor activities in Pucon. I personally feel the white water rafting [in october] and horse back riding is great. Actually many foreigners in the last 5yrs are buying property and building houses on the lots for less than $175,000 USD. Yes! Staying at the Geronimo offers the perfet location for all activities and it feels like staying at a friend's home. Rooms are small but very clean. As Pucon offers so much to do outdoors, the size of the room does not really matter. Breakfast is nice: breads, fruit plate, juice, cafe and eggs. Geronimo has onsite parking and WIFI. It is close to the bus terminal and is a 5min walk to: all shops, restaurants, lounges, cafes, tour offices, lake, volcano and casino. Hang outs near Geronimo are: Mamas and Tapas [my fav lounge with good tapas and killer music], Maga a Uruguayan parilla located at the corner of Fresia/Geronimo Street, Senso a nice Italian restaurant, La Poza Restaurant facing the lake is not to be missed!!! This is a must for the view of the lake and the food. The Trucha is amazing. It has outdoor and indoor seating. The owner Alfredo is wonderful. Also check out Cafe de La Paix. Great place for breakfast/lunch/dinner and it also has indoor/outdoor seating. Their pastry country is not to be missed. If you want a pizza, go to Cala right beside. Pucon is a super spot for day trips, activities and the scenery is just incredible. Pack your bags and when here ask for a Pisco Sour..Cheers..

The staff and owner's attitude is awful!!

We were planning on climbing the Villa Rica on the morning after our arrival. Unfortunately our plans to have a good night sleep before waking up at 5am were disturbed by lack of hot water.
We tried to talk to the Spanish-speaking attendant, who was rude and could not fix it. He came up to the room and each time, a minute after he left the water became freezing cold again. The third time we came to him, he refused to come up. With not much to do about it, we showered in freezing cold water, and went to sleep about 2 hours after we originally planned, feeling very pissed.

The next morning, to our surprise, Johanna, the owner offered us a solution: to find another hotel!! This of course was not an option in high season in Pucon, so unfortunately we had to stay for 2 more nights with freezing showers and trying to avoid the owners.

If that isn't enough, the room was tiny (smaller than cheap hotels I stayed in Paris!) and guests are allowed to smoke in the salon at the entrance.

If you do by any chance decide to stay there: DON'T go with Johanna's recommendation for a travel agency. they are not that cheap and their gear is in very bad shape. we went with AguaVentura who were a little more expensive, but had new gear and were very fair.

In short, too expensive + horrible attitude = stay away!

Before leaving the United States we had made reservations for two rooms to accommodate all our family including two small children (ages 2 and 4). We drove all day down to Pucon from Santiago and arrived exhausted and looking forward to turning in immediately. The kids were really suffering. Unfortunately, my mother-in-law's Romanian passport was not valid and she had to return home without entering the country. So far, so bad.
When I told the owner of Hostal Geronimo we would only need one room instead of two, she became irate, refused to accommodate us, and threw us out on the street, telling us to try to get another hotel in Pucon during this busy season. Then she laughed in my face.
I don't know about other's experiences, but we had to drive all the way back to Temuco in the middle of the night to stay at the Holiday Inn there and try to build a new vacation.
Ugly, ugly, ugly. Not typical of Chile outside of greedy Pucon.

This wasn’t a hostel like mentioned below it is more like a mid sized hotel with breakfast included. It is fantastic and everything was in walking distance. Mauricio was also very friendly and helpful. We had a room with a view of the volcano and a veranda which we enjoyed. The hostel was clean and in good condition.

I really liked Hostel Geronimo. On arrival I was surprised tht it wasn´t a hostel at all or even a B&B, but a mid sized hotel. It was perfectly situated midway between downtown and the lake, plus it was on the correct side of town for the bus companies, which were within easy walking distance with heavy rucksack! It was really cold when I was in Pucon but the hotel was really cosy, with roaring log fires in reception and an effective heater in the room. The bed was really comfy, the free wifi worked in the room and there was cable tv too, as well as an internet terminal in reception. The breakfasts were nice, pancakes, eggs, fruit, fresh bread etc. The staff were really friendly and helpful, the lady on reception spoke excellent English and they set me up with a really great guide for solo and group troups aroiund the area.

Nice situated hotel and good enough for a night. Breakfast was not good (to much water in the eggs, and only coffee and bread with jam).

  • Liked — WIFI for free.
  • Disliked — the bed smelled strange.
