Antumalal is beautiful hotel. Stunning scenic views of Villarrica Lake. Rooms were very comfortable and clean. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. My flight arrival to Temuco was delayed 5 hours due to weather, but the car was waiting for me when I arrived. THANK YOU! The restaurant is very good. Sitting in the living area next to the fire with a coffee was such a pleasant and relaxing experience. Some of my sight-seeing plans got changed due to weather. I had a back-up plan and the staff was more than happy to help me make my new arrangements. Because the weather was so bad, I wasn't able to see the volcano. They were so positive to tell me, "You have to believe. It is right there." The hotel, overall, has it's own unique feel. I've seen several complaints online about the Antumalal. But, I loved it and would stay here again. Guess it all depends on what you are looking for in a hotel. If you want a unique, unforgettable experience, stay here!

Room Tip: I'm not sure there is a bad room here. They all overlook the lake!!

This place surely cannot be topped.
It was raining heavy for 2 days, We turned up at 8pm wet, with no bookingThere was 1 suite room remaining with 2 huge fireplaces, a lounge area and a King bed in the next room, 2 amazing windows looked over the gardens and the lakes. We booked for 1 night and could not resist booking a second after realizing this hotel is probably the best we will ever experience for an excellent price of US$240 per night!
Comfort, warmth, countless open fireplaces, pool, spa, best food on our 2 week trip through southern Chile.
Did I mention the pool and food? WOW!
Great staff also!

Also, probably the some of the most amazing architecture you will lay your eves on in this place! Lamps made from tree branches? awesome!

Room Tip: Get the suite room!

Oh, Antumalal. You are gorgeous. The views of the lake, from anywhere in the hotel, are breathtaking. The architecture is stunning. The gardens are lush and well maintained. The sheep rugs by each bedside ensures your feet have a soft landing. The linens (sheets and napkins) are pressed and soft. The food is excellent, as is the selection of wines, and pisco sours! A rainy day offers the indulgence of staying by the fire all day: either in your room or one on the living room. Note: my clothes all smelled like campfire after our stay at Antumalal.
Unfortunately for me, The hotel in not wheelchair friendly. There are two steps into the lobby, five or six into the living room area, one in the Dining Room, four to the balcony where people have drinks and watch the sunset, and IF you drive down the very steep driveway to the pool area, you still have about 10 steps up to the pool doors, and 4 stairs down to the pool area. There were no steps from the lobby to our room, but the bathroom door had to be taken off the hinges so I could access the bathtub.
Wifi is terribly spotty (read: annoying) in the hotel.
Unfortunately, we did not get the best advice about which hot springs to visit; we went to Huife, which is like a big heated swimming pool, instead of going to the Termas Geometricas, which wins architectural awards. Too bad the lady at the front desk said Huife was the best!
Kayaking with the hotel’s kayaks on the lake was fun (watch out for the unannounced fee).
I agree with the other comments on trip advisor: there are aspects of the hotel that have a very 1960’s feel, mainly in architecture, but the historical photographs which grace the walls don’t help the “old time” feel. One more thing to note: we spent 4 full days at Antumalal and felt a little bored. A shorter visit would have been better for us.

Many thanks for your wonderful words about the views and comfort of our hotel. All your comments are gladly received as they do help us to improve. Unfortunately when the hotel was built in 1950 it was not designed with wheelchair users in mind. We understand that the steps are a major problem to access some areas of the hotel. During the coming low season we will be remodelling one bathroom to aid wheelchair access. All activities and excursions are listed in the folder in all our rooms, the Geometric Hot Springs included. It is however a 1,5 hour drive on rough roads so the receptionist would have had this is mind when assisting you in your choice. We do hope one day you will return to the Antumalal to see our new wheelchair accessible room and to enjoy once again the wonderful views and comforts we can offer.

We found the grounds and the architecture/furnishings of the Antumalal very special. But the guest rooms a little disappointing. They resemble well maintained motel rooms from the 1960s. So, if you are out and about enjoying the many activities available in the area, the rooms are fine. However, we had a couple days of rainy weather, and spent way too much time in our room. The dining room is quite sparse and cold...again, I think the weather played a part in our impression. There is a wonderful patio dining area with a tremendous view, that would be enjoyable on a warm evening. The staff was ok. There were several service-friendly staff, but also several indifferent.

Hotel Antumalal is beautiful both in terms of its understated elegant architecture and furnishings and in terms of its spectacular natural setting and grounds. Then add in a world class staff that is incredibly gracious and helpful but never intrusive or obsequious and you have a perfect hotel. The food in the restaurant is also first rate, probably the best in Pucon, which has several excellent restaurants. Stayed for 6 nights and found it incredibly hard to leave this little piece of paradise. It is the best hotel we have ever stayed in anywhere, and that includes many world-class hotels.

My wife and I spent four days here in early March. It was a perfect time to be in the region as the end of Feb is the end of the busy season, the weather was great and hotel and its location were perfect. The hotel sits in the perfect location on Lake Villarica and is approx 1 mile from downtown Pucon. I was skeptical about the hotel as its uniqueness is in the 50's styling and is history of famous guests from 60 years ago, but the 50's modern style that has been preserved actually gives it a modern feel. It was a true experience and the new spa and pool were a great place to relax after our flight from New York. Front desk spoke English very well which is frequently not the case in this region. They were also great resources for planning and setting up day trips. The restaurant had a nice selection of meat and fish dishes prepared by a chef. I give this my highest recommendation and look forward to returning in the future. The only downside... the walls were somewhat thin and the pisco sours were our least favorite of the trip (and we had several) :).

Many thanks for taking the time to write a comment about our hotel. It is extremely useful to help us identify areas where we can improve. We are aware of the issue with the walls between the rooms on the ground floor. During the coming low season we intend to implement a project to sound proof and insulate all walls along the corridor. We are sure when you next return you will immediately notice the difference! In regard to our pisco sours, we do spot test them from time to time (a nice part of the job!), and they have always been given the thumbs up. Maybe you could let us know where you found your favourite ones and we will go and try them ourselves? Once again, thank you for your comments and we do hope you will return to the Antumalal on your next Chilean vacation.

Hotel Antumal is officially on my list of top hotels. Although the rooms wasn't as modern as a city hotel, the experience is second to none. I felt like I was staying in a giant tree house. The restaurant sits on top of the lake and the food was fantastic (best meal after La Maga). The spa is relaxing and the therapists were experienced. There is a private dock, and a good amount of outdoor options to sit down and relax. From the front desk to the bartender, the service was genuine and right on. Gloria in the front office was very helpful and an expert on Pucon, she offers great tips and suggestions! The location was superb and made for a quiet environment, but still close enough to town. We showed up and didn't know if we needed a car, but it turned out we did and the hotel has two "company" cars that you can rent for the day at a great rate. The security was strong and the only noise at night was that of the lake!
