After spending the afternoon exploring and soaking in a thermas, we decided to have seek a dinner at a restaurant that cooks real Chilean food and found Sabores de Chile in Pucon. We had a shady table outside as evening set in and enjoyed people watching as we considered the menu. It was helpful that they had some info on the menu in English for visiting gringos! They were also open and serving dinner for those of us who like early dinner times. We had the shrimp and cheese empanadas (yummy) and Pastel de Chocio (baked an earthenware casserole with chicken, black olives, hard boiled egg in a sweet corn meal) and salmon baked in an earthenware casserole in a tomato type sauce with onions and peppers. Both were very good. Dessert was pancake celestial (can't remember the name in Spanish) which had Manjar (Chilean dulce de leche) inside, drisseled with chocolate sauce and powdered sugar. Yum! We also had the opportunity to meet the owner a John, who said that his wife was the chef. We are going to tell our Chilean friends about this place!
