Staying here was like the best part of living at home - not only was it warm and cosy, but Philippe looked after us like we were part of the family. There was a lovely, cosy living area where you could access the internet, enjoy a few drinks, or just relax by the fire; great kitchen with a supermarket close by; or they'd throw a BBQ with the catch-of-the-day. The rooms and beds are comfortable and warm, and the entire place is sparkling clean. Philippe knows everything there is to know about the activities in the area (there are so many) and our tours were booked for us within minutes of us mentioning our desire to do them. Its in a great location - lovely and quiet, yet still close to the town centre. Or its perfectly setup to make your own fun in the outdoor and indoor living areas. It's a homely yet fun little hostel, in a beautiful and action-packed town. I will most definitely be back, and I would recommend Ruka to anyone traveling to Pucon!

Am just back from a great stay at Ruka Hostel! Loved it! You will feel so at home in this cozy international hostel, - owner Phillippe and his family are so welcoming and gracious. Plus Phillippe is a very qualified outdoor guide (rafting, kayaking, climbing), so he will help you plan all your activities in Pucon. He is fluent in English, though raised in Chile. Plus his mom Monica will make you feel so comfortable with her 1000 watt smile. It is a great value as Pucon can be a bit pricey, breakfast included. But do NOT miss a chance to have Phillippe cook typical Chilean bbq! I met very interesting travelers while staying there, last night I enjoyed the United Nations flavor with folks from Israel, Romania, and Germany. (I was the only Yank.) I usually don't go for shared bathrooms, but here it was great, clean with endless hot water. The internet is bombproof and there is a nice big shared kitchen, and living room. There are two small tiendas a block or two away, and it is in a quieter, residential section of Pucon, so you can get a good night's sleep! (Chileans LOVE to party during their summer, the center of town can be busy at night.)
These guys bend over backwards to make your stay perfect.

We stayed at Ruka Pucon just when it opened. Philippe, the host, knows everything about Pucon and the activities. Did hydrospeeding with him as safety kayaker, he recommended good companies for horse-back riding, volcano climbing and renting a car. We felt very well taken care of.
The barbecues Philippe organized meant some of the best evenings we had in Chile. Freshly prepared, tasty food, good wine, really nice company. What else could you ask for?
Yes, Ruka Pucon is not in the very centre of Pucon. However, a 10 minutes walk takes you to all the stores/bars/restaurants. And if that's too much after a day of outdoor activities, you can still grab a shared taxi that'll take you 'downtown' for for about 0.50€. There is also a well equipped mini market just around the corner. So if you don't want to go out, you can get al the supplies you might need right there. The nights are nice and quiet, being not quite in the middle of all the noise.
After all a very friendly place where we felt home so much that we stayed a couple of nights longer than planned.

Philippe is a great help in organising all the excursions. Never had to try to pick between the dozens of companies in town, which would be totally random otherwise. As a result of that, we were more or less guaranteed good and safe activities. We rode horses, rafting, canyonning, thermal springs, climb volcano, hydro speed, and we paid everything at the end of our stay so no need to go into town or bring money with us on excursions. Also arranged pickup and drop off at the hostel so pretty easy.

The negative is the relatively long walk to town. Once you are sore from climbing a volcano, the last thing you want to do is trek to town for dinner. There is a nearby solution, but if you need to draw money or drop laundry or want a beer, you really need to do the long walk and it became a little but painful after a few days.

Few small negative points: the wifi was spotty (on and off, of course always off when you need it, but Philippe has internet next door so ask), towels were not changed unless we asked (once only) and the room was cleaned only once in 4 nights also. Some mornings we got really nice bread, another morning a hard rock and we used our own bread. The beds are good though and it is in a quiet area, so you will sleep really well.

It is relatively small, so you get a chance to talk to other travellers and Philippe organised a barbeque which we all attended and that was good to talk to others.

Overall a pretty good experience

I was lucky to be there just when Ruka Pucón Hostel opened. The goal of Philippe (the owner) is that everybody should feel like at home. And one really does! There is a big kitchen and a cozy living room where you can meet other people. Philippe prepared extremely good BBQs and he also takes care about the fun things to do in Pucon. If you have any questions concerning outdoor activities, restaurants or bars... Philippe knows the best places and agencies to go with and he will be there to help you.
I had a great time in Pucón. I really enjoyed every minute and hope to come back soon!

We were staying at Ruca Pucon Hostel with 8 other paddling friends for one week. We really enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and the friendly owners. For us, as a group, it was a perfect place to stay; "our own litle home". The highlight was of course the big BBQ dinner the owners prepared for us one evening. Philippe, the owner, is an excellent kayaker and riverguide and gave us lots of usefull tips about the rivers in the area.

Travelled with my friends to Pucon last month, and highly recommend this charming place to stay. The host, Phillipe, is very friendly and useful in making the most out of your trip to Pucon – was very helpful with recommendations. Very welcoming place (fantastic place to meet other travellers!), close to grocery stores and sites…plus he’s a great cook! YAY Chilean BBQ!
