The white sandy beach belies the fact that it is in the South Atlantic, the crash of the waves and the presence of a number of different bird life, the occasional penguin, and dolphins surfing in the waves means the beach is always alive, whether in sun, wind or snow there is always something that will grab your attention

How many beaches will you visit where you go not knowing what you will see that day?! Surf Bay is a gorgeous, white sand beach that shows off a diverse display of wildlife. Dolphins are often spotted. Penguins, and seals also come to shore from time to time. In one of my last visits to Surf Bay, I witnessed a pod of what i thought was dolphins but some people say that it could well have been orcas. They hung around for quite a while swimming up and down the beach as I walked along in the sunshine.
The beach is fairly long and is backed by sand dunes. There is a smaller rockier beach next to the main one. Behind the car park of the beach is a War Memorial to HMS Glamorgan and you can look back over at Stanley. I did this just as it was getting dark with Stanley lit up.
The skies here are beautiful and going down at dawn or dusk is well worth the experience. One of the things I love about the Falklands is just how easy it is to experience such natural beauty and be completely alone - without hoards of other tourists.
No facilities down at the beach for bathroom, food or drink.
Taxi from town will be around £3 or you can walk the By-Pass road from Stanley.

Surf Bay is 10 minutes outside of Stanley and offers about a mile of Falkland Islands white sand. Its a location favored location by locals for dog walking and getting some fresh air. Like most of the Falkland Islands the beach is very wind sweep however if you head towards north of the beach you can usually find a sheltered spot to relax or as I prefer build a sand castle.

Despite this beach been popular with locals this isn't like any beach in Europe, like the rest of the Falklands busy means about 5 people in total on the beach.

My advise, go, walk up and down the beach and feel the wind in your hair!
