Difficult to get to but incredible. Most of the journey is 'off road' on account of there not being a purpose built road out to Volunteer Point. The journey is quite bumpy over fields and peat bogs covered with he and a terrain not unlike the Scottish highlands. Volunteer point consists of miles of white sands and various breeds of penguins including the Kings. There are also sheep and many other types of birds in the area. The creatures have no fear of man and you can walk within a few feet of them. It was a truly amazing experience.

This should definitely be on the "must see" list for anyone visiting the Falklands. The scenery is fantastic. The penguins are amazing...

It is one of the best tours i have done. We went there with Nyree. Estancia Excursions. She is a young lady with sense of humor. Really enjoyed her company. It takes about 2 hours driving off road to get there. But it's fun. And it is worth it. There are 3 kinds of penguins there. I personally enjoyed king penguins the most. There are lots of them around there. They walk right next to you. There are so many opportunities to take lots of beautiful pictures. There is a beautiful beach with pink sand there as well.
This excursion is more expensive than some others. But believe my experience. This one is much more enjoyable.
Dress warmly. It's very windy there.

This is a must do if you are staying in Stanley. We went with Tony, one of the two people who started trips to Volunteer in 1990. About half the journey is on gavel roads, but the rest (about one and a half hours) is off road. Tony is very knowledgeable about the history of Stanley and the 1982 conflict. Volunteer is the place to go if you wish to see King Penguins as this is the only colony on the Islands. Although you have keep outside the white pebbles you are still quite close to the Kings, and they will walk quite close to you. There is also a colony of Gentoo and Magellanic penguins. Do go when there are no visiting cruise ships though!

This was a Cruise Tour on Princess. Two and a half Hour 4-wheel drive trip in a Land Rover. It was truely an "off road" road experience driving across the peat bogs of the "common". Very different and interesting scenery. Once the Beach at Volunteer Point was reached the awesome experience of seeing three specis of Penguin began. We spent two hours mengling with King, Gento and Magellanic penguins, upland geese, various gulls and other unidentified species. Witnessed penguins going into and returning from the sea as well as Sea Lions off shore waiting for a tasty treat. Prior to our departure we were served a heatry sack lunch and then set off on our 2.5 hour return trip to Stanley and our cruise ship. DONT MISS THIS ONE - its a once in a lifetime opportunity.
