“Prime, still in the pink.”
Reviewed October 13, 2012

I have been a regular if not a frequent visitor to Prime Society over the past few years. I like the location and the building is very good, particularly as you can drift outside post dinner for drinks on the rear verandah.

We started with oysters which were good, they certainly didn't last long. Not Sydney standard perhaps but they all hit the spot. Next came the mains. It is really a steak restaurant so steak is what my party all had. Once again it was cooked just as ordered with our respective tenderloins spot on. What was a little disappointing was the changes to the menu and losing a couple of favorites from the side dishes but all places must move on and update I know.

We caught the restaurant during a change over in the wine menu - a new sommelier has arrived and he is in the process of reviewing the wine list. This resulted in both good and bad. Almost all of the reds we asked for weren't available so in the end we simply asked for a list of what they did. We ended up with a Carmenere from Chile. Not the best given it was over $100++ but it opened up a bit as we ate. It was the last bottle as well so the sommelier spoke to us and recommended an excellent Nappa blend which will become one of their house pours (note it is still well over $100++) but it was a very good choice. Complimentary drinks were given to us on the verandah at the end of the meal which was a nice and unexpected touch.

The food has always been consistent when I have visited as has the service. Again, it passed muster. Waitresses were there when required but never stay away nor pushy. When we were having problems with the wine in stepped the main man. No complaints and I will definitely return at some stage in the future.

“Not really prime time, but good enough”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

We started with the oysters and they were ok, fresh, and my friend said he's had better. For the mains, I had the butler steak, which was something i've never had. It was nicely done, juicy, no major complaints. My friend had the sirloin and he found the portion slightly small. So if you're a big eater, they have a supplement 100g that you can consider. We had the house red, which was an Italian red. There was only this 1 choice for house red, though the wine list had 3 choices, and the one we were given wasn't even in the wine list. oh well. the house red was ok, and my friend thought they were rather stingy with the pour. It was like 15% of the large wine glass. Feeling underwhelmed from the smallish portion of the steak, my friend was gearing for dessert. I had the cheese plate (they have a good option of just choosing 1 cheese or the platter of 4 cheeses) which was ok. My friend had the rice pudding which was interesting - it was more sweet than rice pudding-like, and he only ended up eating half of it. All in all, this is an ok experience, and i thought on the pricier side, it was SGD280 for both us. When we were settling the bill, i encountered the most clumsy service staff ever whose hand actually hit my face and spectacles, and he only uttered a quick and curt sorry without too much thought

“Over rated, stay away”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

I had heard mixed reviews about Prime Society but decided to see for myself what was reality

Location/Ambience - Dempsey Hill has become the new HV hence you expect to pay prices in the higher range... nice restaurant layout and setting

Starter - the highlight of the meal, the Wagyu Tataki was really nice - average starter price $14

Steaks - tiny 180g steaks, start at $48 and up to $80... outrageous pricing for such small portion and [a] my US sirloin was ~20% fat/gristle [b] came medium rare when medium well was asked for

Sides - daylight robbery you have to pay $9 for a side to accompany already pricey steaks... the wife got "skinny fries" which were pretty much McDonalds standard

Desserts - Prime Society are more into visual appeal than any substance or decent portion size... really poor at ~$14 a pop...

Wine - at least 3-4x the shop value in terms of mark up... average selection, top end prices

Value - please note the menu does not state that the prices are exclusive of service and GST so be prepared for the 17% uplift on already overpriced mediocre fare

Conclusion - I understand that rents in Singapore are beyond ridiculous and you can't hold the tenants responsible for landlords avaricious greed, but when you pay top dollar you expect to have a nice meal and feel like you were reasonably fed... Prime Society will leave you feeling empty in the pocket, empty in the stomach and just an all round disappointment... don't waste your money, plenty of better places that are just plain better

“Just ok”
Reviewed August 12, 2012

We went for an anniversary dinner, looking for a good steak and nice wine. The wine list was pretty good, but on the pricey side--not too bad though. The steaks were just ok, which we found to be disappointing. The service was pretty good and the atmosphere nice, but considering we paid S$400 for two steaks, two sides, two desserts, and one bottle of wine, we didn't think it was worth it.

“when is a prompt apology better than 6 dollars off the bill...”
Reviewed August 9, 2012

Lets face it, if you go for a stake out to dinner in a restaurant in Singapore or anywhere else for that matter you are not concern about the price, tender juicy meat is your goal. My husband's thin stake resembled the ear of the cow (still moving) despite of having ordered medium cooked, my 38 dollars burger came with a detail barely tolerate in a shower (A HAIR), as I pointed to the offending detail the waiters whisked the plate away and came back with the bill. No wine list offer? no explanation, no apology, just the bill.
