Chic boutique hotel

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Oct 27, 2019via mobile
Having always stayed at full size hotels in Singapore, I wanted to give Vagabond a try. It’s a small establishment with cool decor at a surprisingly peaceful road. Easy walks to find meals even in the late evening. While nobody would greet you at the door and help with luggages unless you shout, front desk is manned with cheerful youngsters and they’re quite helpful where they could. Room is ridiculously small so suggest to look elsewhere if you visit as family. Amazingly good linen and amenities inside the room. One thing I’m disappointed with was the poor recognition to Bonvoy elites but sort of expected being a Tribute portfolio.

Overall a small but great hotel. Small rooms but edgy and cool design, cool vibe. Red color can be overwhelming but fits well for me. In a lively street and colorful neighborhood. This hotel is one of my favorite in Singapore.

One complain: the breakfast is not well setup, no buffet, takes time to get food.

Bottom line: not for everyone, but a must try.

This is a quirky little hotel. Liked the interior décor. Was The first couple of nights were is a standard room, and was upgraded to the Vagabond Suite later, a huge two room suite. The standard room can feel a bit cramped. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

Room tip: If you can, get the Vagabond Suite

There was no hot water after 2 minutes in the shower in a $300 hotel. I told them after the first night, a staff came to check and verified to my face that there was indeed an issue, and told me it would be fixed.

The next morning, I shower again and once again, there was no hot water. Have a video proof of it as well showing the water turned to the hottest setting with not an ounce of steam coming out of the shower because it was ice cold.

Thankfully that was my last day there so during checkout they said the manager would get back to me. I just received an email that basically says "it wasn't broken, sucks to be you, and your loyalty to Marriott." Even with proof and having the issue confirmed in person, they reject the idea probably to avoid having to compensate me.

$300 with no hot water, know what you are getting into. Terrible service to by management.

Hello Kevin C,

One Dot for no hot water on Tripadvisor...I would do this too if I was as upset (although I was recently in Ho Chi Minh at an amazing hotel named Mia Saigon which didn't have hot water in my room - but they are in pre-opening - so it's excusable). In this case, since such issues actually so annoy me as well - I checked on this personally. You stayed in room 206. Our head housekeeper went in while you were out and ran it for 10 minutes (I think she has a video too...but personally I find it kind of defensive to have to prove ones point by doing videos...although I am happy that you have one if you feel you need to prove your point by doing so...steam is hard to capture though I must say).

I doubt the GM would say "it wasn't broken, sucks to be you, and your loyalty to Marriott" - we wouldn't dare do that. Damn it - I'd sack anyone who would! We really love Marriott and all Marriott loyalty guests - really. They are our bread and butter! That's why we routinely rank the highest in the system for Tribute in Asia for Elite Appreciation (at a peak of 75.3 - surpassing the 'K'' goal of 63.4).

Am sorry that we can't refund you $300 for this, but if you do come back (really please do), I'll personally ensure the hot water before you come and then even happy to do so with you in-person.

Spent the weekend and enjoyed the unique boutique hotel setting.

Check in was a breeze as I was the last expected guest and all the paperwork was done due to my earlier checkin via the Marriott app. Staff was helpful and provided a number of useful maps that I used to explore Little India, Arab Street and the surrounding areas. The location was perfectly centralized for walking.

The inside of the hotel was decorated with dark woods and lots of red. The ceiling shades were drawn back allowing in lots of light which I enjoyed one early evening when a large selection of snacks and finger foods were served. The wall of whiskey bottles was an interesting sight to see.

Upstairs, my room was nicely decorated with lots of character. Bed and room were comfortable. I had access to the patio with tables and chairs on artificial grass. While there was not much of a view, it was a nice feature.

Overall this was a nice change from the typical Marriott hotel and given the opportunity will try to stay at a similar one in the future.

Very stylish and artistic. Walking distance to Little India and other eating spots. Feels like you are in a special hotel and not smack bang in the hustle and bustle of Singapore. Would stay here again.
