I have mixed feelings about this hotel. Perhaps my expectations were too high, having read the reviews on Trip Advisor.

Pros:
Good price - we paid for 5 nights in a Classic Room for approx £120 per night.
Handy phone with internet access provided for use when out and about
Comfortable bed
The free afternoon high tea drinks (although the food wasn't very good quality)
Good decor/design

Cons:
We were upgraded to a Deluxe Club room. I was expecting a small room, having read the reviews, but this really was disappointingly small. I was staying with my husband, so we eventually got used to the lack of space but I can imagine this could be fairly stifling if you were travelling with friends. 5 nights in this room was claustrophobic even for us.

The shower blocked and overflowed - apparently not an infrequent occurrence.

The light switches for the bathroom were next to the bed rather than in the bathroom, difficult to access in the night and disturbed the other person that was asleep.

The location was near Little India and was 8 mins walk to the nearest MTR. We mainly used Uber to get around, which is fairly cheap. Personally, I think it would be better to stay somewhere more central, close to Marina Bay etc, particularly if you are only staying for a couple of days.

Service at the bar very slow.

We arrived back one afternoon to find that the maid had left our door open - luckily we had come back to collect something, otherwise we wouldn't have returned for several hours and our belongings could have been stolen.

Overall, not my cup of tea and hard to believe that is the 11th best hotel in Singapore according to TripAdvisor reviews.

Dear Kiren G,

I am so sorry to hear that you didn't find your stay to live up to the expectation. I will take note on the issues I can resolve such as the bar service and housekeeping issues.

I hope you do visit Singapore again -- perhaps you can try another brand under the Garcha Hotels group, one of which is opening mid April in China Town.

Warm Regards,

Lady Boss

The property itself is clean, tidy and furnished in an interesting and quirky style however I wouldn’t say that it is a 5-star property or experience for the guests.

Whilst the furnishings were fine and the rooms clean and tidy, they were exceptionally small and rather pokey. With two suitcases, this made manouvering around quite difficult. The bathroom layout was also quite odd - the walls appeared to be an after-thought when designing the rooms, and didn’t provide a great deal of space for the person using the bathroom.

Some of the staff were great, although one young man we dealt with the most was rather strange. He was not at all helpful with regards to providing information about the local area or transport, and made us feel somewhat uncomfortable as he tended to stare and create moments of awkward silence that we found unsettling.

Overall the property is fine but somewhat overpriced for the product delivered.

Dear Bgl2013,

Thank you so much for your feedback, and I'm sorry you didn't find your experience to be as you would have wished. Although I can't do anything about the room sizes, I do take note about the staff you found it awkward dealing with.

Thank you,

Lady Boss

In a market saturated with boutique style hotels, the Vagabond Club really shines. A woozy, opiate aesthetic, art fills every space - from giant sculptures in the bar to a hallucinatory video-scape in the lift. The staff are a joy, knowledgeable and friendly, the barman cuts ice to order, negroni has never been so good. Really, this is bar service like NY used to deliver. Go for a larger room, take their advice on dining spots. The location means you will fall over inexpensive and astoundingly good Indian/Chinese/Malaysian food. I have joined trip advisor just to review this place, it’s that good!

I spent a night in Singapore on the way from Birmingham to NZ The taxi from Changi to the city was very good value Hotel is great - warm friendly staff , comfy bed , excellent air con , free fast wifi , superb shower Rooms are decorated on an Indian theme , but its all very tasteful and hides lots of modern tech The price includes breakfast , rooms have coffee making facilities , always appreciated by British vagabonds The hotel is about a half hour walk from the old centre of Singapore - Raffles and the Cathedral - or ten mins walk to a metro station which will take you there in air conditioned coolth..

Great hotel with a cool setting. The employees were absolutely charming and personable - each and everyone that I came into contact with. The bed was comfortable and the décor was chic. The location was great, close to the MRT and local food.
