After a week of feasting on traditional Chinese food over the Chinese New Year period, we decided it was time for something different. So we put our chopsticks away as well as the fork and spoon and decided it was time to get back to basics.
Off we went to Race Course Road in Little India, Singapore to savor the traditional fish head curry, curry vegetables, butter chicken and deep fried fish roe. After a through hand washing at the facilities there (3 sinks fully equipped with soap, hand dryers and paper towels), we dived in with our hands (actually you only use one hand to touch the food). The other is reserved for picking up your drinks, adjusting your glasses and of course scratching your..... (You get the idea)...
We had a small fish head curry which cost about $22 SGD, butter chicken for the kids (not spicy), deep fried fish roe (also not spicy), spinach with cottage cheese and a helpful of white rice (you can ask for as many helpings as you like). The meal comes with free flow of vegetables which the waiter brings around from time to time in 2 silver containers and popadums (deep fried round crackers the size of your palm, which taste great with beer - actually many things taste great with beer, but I digress).
There were many other items on the menu but since there were only 4 of us (out of which 2 were kids ages 11 & 12), what we ordered was more than enough. We also had some nice drinks like lime juice, mango lassi, plain sweet lassi (lassi is an Indian yoghurt drink which taste great - after a lassi you can have a beer).
The staff was good and friendly. They even helped us take a picture of the family without prompting. Our whole meal came up to only $75 and we definitely over ordered.
