“Got better !!!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2012

First night was allocated a room on the 7th Floor. On exiting the lifts the floor smelt of smoke. The room was excellent in design with only a few stains on the carpet but the only downfall was that everything smelt of SMOKE !!!! Towels, Pillows, everthing. Went down to reception to complain but was told hotel full and would only be able to move to a non smoking room the next day. That night I felt sick with the smell of smoke.

They did move me the next day to a new room on the 9th floor but had to wait till after 2pm before doing this. This room was excellent and I had no quibbles with it at all.

Breakfasts in the hotel had a vast choice from buffet to cooked but my tip here is go down very early otherwise it is a mad scrabble due to the number of quests. The restaurant soon filled up and tables were even set by the pool. The mechanical toaster seemed to firstly warm the bread and to toast had to be put through twice.

Tip : If you want freshly cooked fried eggs or omlettes get these first otherwise a long wait may occure due to the numbers waiting for these items.

Room Tip: Avoid floor 7. This is a smoking floor and by god you can tell!!!! Rooms smell of smoke.

The Peninsula Excelsior Hotel in Coleman Street is a well located and good place to stay in Singapore. It is right next to the City Hall MRT station for transport and the Raffles City Shopping Centre. The rooms are very clean and comfortable as well as spacious. Bathrooms are very good. The hotel is quiet. There are only 2 disadvantages of this hotel. There is no free Wi-Fi and the reception staff need some improvement in customer service.

My wife & I stayed for 5 nights in June. The location is very convenient. When I complained about the mould in the corners of the bathroom it was cleaned straight away. The lift doors to the foyer closed faster than a mousetrap & could be quite dangerous for the elderly. But the big surprise came at the business centre when I aked the price to use their internet.$10.70 for 15 minutes???When I asked how much an hour,I was handed an adding machine & told to multiply by 4.$42.80.Seems just a tad excessive, allowing for the fact that in the shopping centre opposite the hotel, there are any amount of internet cafes, charging between $1& $2 per hour.

We were very dissatisfied with this hotel, we upgraded to a deluxe room from a standard and I would of hate to have seen the original room we were to have! The hotel lobby is nice but hard to navigate as there us 2 towers, the staff were ok could have shown a bit more customer service, the room itself was small with a nice view. The bathroom was so tiny and dirty, mould from the shower head and in roof from poor ventilation, when other rooms showered you could here it through your drain which also had a slight smell. The shower pressure was good but water got all over the floor and the shower was very hard to get in and out of! Breakfast was good and the location was great! Very disappointed in what we thought was going to be a nice hotel!

Hotel centrally located. 200 yards to hop on hop off bus and eateries. Other reviews state breakfast not too good. Can't see why. Good choice and well cooked. Serve yourself so no problems with portion sizes.

Good sized comfortable room. However very noisy during night due to air conditioning units being outside of window. Because of this, do not accept a room facing swimming pool if you want a good night's sleep.

Staff very helpful.

Ample lifts and easy access to reception area.

Room Tip: See above, don't face pool

Stayed for 2 nights in Oct 2012 en route to Australia. We booked via Trailfinders (who are excellent) as part of a Singapore Airlines deal; it was exceptional value. We paid £250 room only for the 2 nights but in addition received back courtesy airport transfers and free admission to 13 Singapore attractions - we received back at least £135 worth of vouchers for attractions we would definitely have visited.
Hotel is in fabulous location - handy for MRT (metro) system, easy walk to Boat/Clark Quays, 20 mins walk to the Singapore Flyer (giant Ferris wheel) - which is a must but do it at night as the views are spectacular, very near to shopping centres, the old Fire station (part of it now a museum and worth a visit) and St Andrew's Cathedral and the old cricket ground.
We had a great room on 10th floor - with fab views over towards Marina Bay. All very clean, gorgeous linen, spacious bathroom with lovely amenities and slippers, & tea/coffee making facilities and fridge. Staff very helpful and as our flight to Sydney was not until late evening there are showers to use in the gym area and hotel looks after your luggage. Would definitely recommend and go back if we are ever in Singapore again. Only downside was slightly disappointing dinner one evening.

Room Tip: Ask for Marina Bay side view

Excellent location, cramped room -my husband , adult daughter & I shared a room, only when we checked in was a spare / makeshoft bed brought in, making our room resemble a reform school dormitory !We were pretty jet lagged, having flown in from S. Africa , en route to perth WA, so by the time we woke up and went out for something to eat, everything was closed. We were never shown arpund the hotel and missed out on seeing the bar on the top floor and the breakfast facilites. There were some "hard-sell" sales people trying to sell us day-tours that we did not want. All that being said, I would definitley stay here again en route to visitng our family in Perth.

Room Tip: ASk for a room overlooking the swimming pool.
