“Great location but some lack of customer service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2012

Hotel is a short walk from City Hall MRT which makes it close to most locations. We had a great room with great views.

However ... the check-in took a long far too long for a modern hotel and when we had reason to complain we were not dealt with properly. We were on a non-smoking floor and one of our neighbours was smoking and letting the smoke into the corridor and therefore into our room. I complained to the hotel and their 'solution' was to offer to move us rather than stopping the smoking. We were offered an allegedly 'better' room which was in fact smaller and had a much worse view. We stayed in our original room and thankfully (no thanks to hotel) the smoke smell went away. The final straw was that the hotel suggested that I was mistaken with the smoking !

Reception also rang us (without apology) at just after midnight (waking us up) asking if we needed our room refreshed tomorrow !

I was also surprised that a number of the electrical sockets in the room did not work properly (there was buzzing when I put a pug into the socket) and indeed one of them was half hanging off. Not what I would have expected from a good quality hotel.

Room Tip: We had excellent room overlooking cathedral.

We stayed two nights. Disappointed with room cleanliness. Bathroom tiny. Only one person at a time can fit in. Fittings outdated. Buffet breakfast was well below standard. Poor selection and poory prepared. The view from our room was good though, location close to MRT, and staff were friendly. But we will not stay there again.

We used this hotel as stop over between two long haul flights. Arrived in the morning ,which was our evening, so requested early check in asap. Receptionist was friendly and helpful and arranged check in with only ten minutes wait while they finished cleaning our room. We were very greatful and found the room, clean cool and comfortable, although fairly standard. The only complaint was the pillows were very hard but I guess this is a personal preference. I suggest that as this is a stop over hotel, they have a COMFY lounge for stop over customers with maybe coffee and tea facilities and some newspapers and magazines. We found waiting in the lobby for our transport to the airport ,uncomfortable and boring.

We stayed for three nights during the Singapore F1 Grand Prix. We were pleasantly surprised. We choose the hotel for its location (five minutes to the Padang and the Raffles City) and did not expect all that much in terms of facilities. But it was great. Newly renovated, the bedroom and bathroom were very good. In spite of being fully booked with stressed F1 fans, staff were wonderful and service very fast.We could not be more pleased and will return. Only caveat: this is not a honeymoon hotel: the lobby is open and busy and there is no romantic place to sit and sip champagne.

Stayed here for the Formula One weekend in late September. It was just a 3 min walk to the gates where the race was held, and it was also just a 3 min walk to the nearest MRT. So the location was good. We had the premier room which was comfortable and clean. The housekeeper on our floor was exceptionally friendly and always ready to give a smile. On the flip side, the breakfast spread was not very appetising and bland. The attitude of the staff was mediocre. Some staff even looked lost. The main pool looked dated and a tad dirty, maybe that's why most guests opted to use the smaller stillwater pool. It's unlikely I will choose this hotel again.

Room Tip: Choose the Peninsula wing, harbour facing

The Peninsula Excelsior Hotel is located in central Singapore within walking distance – just a few minutes - to City Hall MRT, Marina Bay, Clark Quay & Singapore Flyer – so the location for exploring Singapore is really good.

We booked a Premier Club Room, it was basically clean and ok but nothing special with access to the skylounge - fantastic view but the breakfast there was rather disappointing…

Very tired hotel. Have stayed here twice before over the years, but each time we say we will not go back. However not being able to get to the Ibis in Belconnen St on a Singapore stop over,we relented. We stayed June & September this year again. Location is fine ,but the organisation inside the hotel in all departments is not good. We always pre book & pay ,but still confusion reigns at the check in. When you arrive at the hotel after a long haul flight, you are asked to leave your bags with the main street entrance & go up to the 5th floor to book in. This is very confusing, then 3rd degree to book in.Lifts small & sometimes not working. It is a wonder peoples bags get to where they are support to go once again down in the foyer to book out. Breakfast ordinary. Dinner at night ,very few people in the Coleman room, better to eat outside the hotel.People need to be processed quickly after a long haul flight & made to feel welcome. Many problems require to be addressed. We are not into giving uffavourable reviews, but we feel we will not venture back here again ,as it is still the same since 2005.
