“Great modern and central hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2010

I stayed here on a trip with 9 family members as part of the $1 Singapore Airlines stopover deal. The hotel is very centrally located and walking distance to most of the city centre sights and shopping centres. It is off on a bit of a side street, so it is pretty quiet. The front reception isn't much to look at. We had some confusion checking in at the hotel because we had only recieved our hotel vouchers the day before - staff weren't too helpful and the two women at reception were not very friendly.

I had a twin room on the 7th floor. The room was a little small for the two of us - while we got around comfortably enough, there isn't much space if two people have medium to large suitcases. The decor was suprisingly modern and the room was clean. The king single beds were extremely comfortable, as was the doona and pillows. The beds were the best thing about my stay - I had an amazing night's sleep. The bathroom was pretty spacious. There was a shower over bath with a thin plastic shower curtain. Because the bath itself is narrow and the curtain rail is too close to the shower, the plastic curtain kept sticking to me while in the shower. The shower pressure and temperature was good and constant. The room was extremely quiet - no traffic or no noise from others in the hotel. We arranged a wake up call for the next morning and this was done on time. We checked out smoothly. The hotel has a tiny gym with a treadmill, cross trainer and upright bike. They are all squeezed into a tiny room, so it's not particularly safe if there's more than one person in there. I didn't see the pool area, but there is a 25m lap pool also on the same floor.

All in all, I had a good stay here and would reccomend it based on my very short stay. I'm not sure how much it costs normally, but for the $1 deal we got, it was an absolute steal. The comfortable beds were the best part about this hotel.

Like many others, we got this hotel at a bargain price as part of a Singaopre Airlines stopover (we were only there 1 night). For the price, it was excellent value but not sure that we'd have paid the full rate. Definitely only a 3 star hotel - rooms were fine & bathrooms were good but public areas are not great & the restauarant was pretty bad - the buffet looked dried up & the a la carte wasn't much better. One of the waiters managed to spill a whole jug of iced water over me at lunchtime (it was really funny so I couldn't get cross) but they had nothing to dry me off only a couple of paper towels so I sat soaking for over an hour & at the end of the meal, we got the bill for the full ammount - including the drink! Still a good deal though but for longer we would definitely stay elsewhere.

We picked up a fantastic internet deal from Singapore Airlines for the night we were obligated to spend in transit from Bali back to Estados Unidos. We were offered Royal@Queens for 1 USD each! Reviews from this site suggested that the rooms might me outdated and malodorous. If this was ever true (and I think some people are so sensitive that they should be forbidden to travel) it is certainly not the case today. We were greeted promptly and courteously, no problem about our ridiculously low rate, and given the key to a spacious room on an upper floor. Everything was spotless, remarkably modern and a delight to the olfactory. It might have been the nicest big city hotel room I have ever enjoyed! And not only that, but this hotel is in the thick of interesting cultural sights and shopping. The nearby Hindu temple was holding an afternoon service featuring a fellow playing a wind instrument usually associated with charming cobras. The temples and a great variety of malls and food courts were within a three block radius. We think Royal @Queens would have been worth several times what we paid!

I stayed here with my mum for a short vacation to Singapore.
Location: This hotel is just 10 steps away from Singapore Art Museum - this is a lovely surprise as we booked this hotel through our Singaporean friends. As both of us love arts and also to see culturous stuff, our friends had chosen this hotel for us and I think they made a good choice. Besides the Art Museum, which is only short walking distance (it is just right at the side of the hotel), a building mostly occupied by book shops (百胜楼 in Chinese) is just at the back of this hotel - you may pass through the back door which linked to another hotel at its back. From this hotel, we walked to Clarke Quay which took us around 20 mins. It is easy as we don't have to make so many turns - just go out from its back door and turn to the right and go straight. On our way to Clarke Quay, we passed by many historical buildings/sites of Singapore. I also walked alone from Chinatown to this hotel. It took me around 35 mins to do so. By the way, there is one MRT station (under construction) right in front of this hotel. Besides, Many museums are just walking distant around this hotel.

Hotel Room: Clean. with a big and wide LCD TV and lots of channels to choose from!
I like the toilet. It is clean and the design is good.

Buffet Breakfast is included. The taste of the food are ok.
Their staff speaks good english and mandarin. Check in and check out were done quite fast.

Only one thing, they have false alarm on the 1st night of our stay, but when we called reception, they immediately apologised.

I have never had a worst experience in a hotel environment in my life. I have travelled all over the world

Front desk staff is arrogant and not accomodating. Manager's name Genieve acted totallt unprofessional.

Hotel not clean. Breakfast not to the mark

Most importantly they try to over charge while ignoring the details of your reservation

Our family of 2 adults and 2 children stayed here for 6 nights. We were only allowed a King size bed and a 1 rollaway. It made the room very squeasy. The beds only had a thick quilt no top sheets, so we asked for a sheet, as the quilt was to hot, we had to pay $100 deposit!! They told us we could leave the sheet in the room at the end of our stay, but we took it to reception to get our money back.
We liked the position of the hotel, a cheap taxi ride to Orchard Rd, close to a 7/11, and lovely cool shopping centre turning right out of hotel and walking 1 block. The breakfast was ok, the dinner was just ok but for S$12 what so you expect? We were the only ones in the restaurant, so had the whole buffet to ourselves!
The pool would have to be the smallest hotel pool I have ever seen, but each time we went to the pool we were the only ones there!
Close to Bugis station, could easily catch the MRT from airport to hotel and a short walk to the Allson hotel up to the second floor which joins to the Royal, easy!

Stayed two separate nights either way on the Singapore Stopover scheme on trip to New Zealand so only paying 2 GBP per night with airport transfers was going to be a bargain whatever. I liked this hotel, although first impressions are not great. No formal reception, just a row of people behind desks. Rooms were for me great. Plenty of rooms, no trendy gimics, everything there and easy to use wth no fuss. Free broadband access from room, a personal security box easy to use, powerful shower and bath. Normal coffee/tea. Even the fangled personal lighting scheme was easy to use and worked. The hotel is used for weddings a lot but that didn't impact us. The staff were great, not starched with forced smiles and silly uniforms, just natural smiles, down to earth and very helpful.
Location is just around the corner from raffles and if you can get used to the humidity its possible to walk to many of the tourist haunts. The buffet breakfast was a blend of western/asian, very good value at $22 singapore before 50% discount with Singapore stopover. Evening options were an Asian buffet or western a la carte. Both times when we stayed there western guests were a very small minority., seems to be used a lot by asian tour groups.
