I don't know if this qualifies as a hotel, it's more like a guesthouse/inn for us. Furniture and fixtures are all outdated. Bed is ok to sleep in. One thing we like it here though is it's clean and they bring fresh towels everyday. The breakfast is so-so. Get the continental breakfast over the buffet. We chose this hotel because of its location and we made the right decision. It was very easy to go from point A to point B from here. From the hotel you can walk to Orchard and Mustafa Centre. We did both. If you are just looking for a place to sleep and want accessible location this is a good place to be. For $100/night, I say this is alright.

Have stayed here 3 or 4 times over the years, stayed with the family in a triple room:

You pay up front so if you are staying more than one night, check out the room first to make sure you are happy with it, unlike myself..We didnt stay a second night..although we paid for it.

Room very hot, noisy through the wall air con.
Very limited facilities, i.e no small fridge..Pillows about 1 inch thick, nothing in bathroom etc..
Internet is via USB modem that you need to hire for $5 per hour, hmmmmm, no explanation from lady at check in desk that it needed to be returned at the end of the hour. It didnt actually work and I couldnt connect so I was quite pxxxxd off when we received a phone call at 1230 am when we were all asleep to ask for it back or we would be charged for the last 2 hours.. I explained to the guy at the desk that perhaps it could have waited until the morning.

We didnt eat breakfast that morning, even last time we stayed we ate out, breakfast is a fairly miserable affair, cheap tasteless unhealthy food. Eat out, plenty of alternatives for breakfast close by. Not a bad location, but in Singapore eveywhere is fairly central. No taxis to front door so if you have a lot of luggage you will have to lug it 50 meters or so to the taxi stand.

Basically an upmarket backpackers place that could do with some investment
Would never go back.

Clean place with all the basics just right. Its an absolutely no frills kind of place that offers a good place to crash for the night. The hotel's location is such that mobility is not a problem at all. The taxi stand, bus stand and the MRT are all within walking distance.
The hotel faces a courtyard which livens up during the day. Taxis can't come up to the hotel door and people have to alight a few metres away at the edge of the courtyard, which is not a problem at all.
The breakfast is simple with toasts, juice and coffee. For people enthusiastic enough for heavy breakfasts, there is a McDonalds outlet nearby.

Check-in was efficient, no chit-chat, and they only take cash payment. Room is spacious and clean, though the furniture are a bit worn. Location-wise is great, less than 100m behind Ibis Bencoolen (there's a bus stop in front of Ibis, plenty of bus route available), around 300m from Bugis Junction (MRT station & bus stop). Plenty of food vendors and there's a HDB nearby with food court in case you're looking for cheap eats. Also durian stalls which sells all kinds of durian, from cheap ones to Musang King. Please note that you can't bring durian and other odorous food into the hotel.

Breakfast choices are only 2 types: toasts or vegetarian chinese. Tasted ok and can lasts through the day. There's a 24hr moslem restaurant in front of Ibis if you're looking for alternatives. Too bad the hot water for shower doesn't run properly. Got back at the hotel at 10pm and found that I have to bathe in lukewarm water. No fridge and hair dryer, but there's a coffe/tea making facility.

The area is lively throughout the day and night, especially near chinese new year.

I stayed at SEA hotel at the end of May 2012 with my friends for 5 nights.. we booked triple room @$130 which is a good bargain compare to the other place (last year I stayed at Beach hotel, and now it's time to give a chance to SEA hotel).. This hotel situated in pedestrian area which surrounded by groceries, eateries, snacks vendors, 7/11 is just at the back of the hotel near Ibis. There is 2 temples next door (Chinese and Indian Temple)

*Reservation: Ms. Choo Bee Li very responsive in replying our email reservation, she reply less than 24hrs which make us confident to stay and get secure room reservation. No deposit needed. And room are paid daily.

*check in/ Check out : Was quick and easy. We arrive before 10am at the htl, the room is not ready yet so we registered at the counter and leave our baggage at their office (we expected this so we start our journey early to the sites nearby like Bugis Market, Bugis junction, city hall, St. andrew Cathedral, Supreme Court, Buddha Tooth Relic, Sri Mariamman Temple, Chinatown, and having lunch at Sushi Restaurant at Central Mall 4th level with Clarke Quay and riverside view from our table. We back to hotel at 3.30pm and the room ready, so everything was perfect)

*Room: The triple room came in decent size, which is very rare in Singapore. AC working properly but we couldn't set the temperature, huge bathroom for Singapore standard, hot water OK (NO Curtain, but the floor dry quickly), TV old fashioned box style, available tea/coffee making facilities, no bottle water, soap/shampoo/shwr cap provided, spacious closet, towels and sheets change daily, our window facing to the Kwam Im temple next door showing us a beautiful morning prayer view, mattress was OK with stiff bed cover.
breakfast included with choices of continental (toast+jam+tea/coffee+orange juice) and vegetarian Chinese (noodles, vegetable bun, kind of fish cake + tea/coffee), the menu didn't change and make us bored BUT in the second morning till the last day of our stay the middle age male waiter give us extra orange juices for chinese menu (which is nice). On the 3rd day we grab some food and fruit at 7/11 and fruit vendors nearby to cheer up our breakfast :)

the staff very care, helpful and accommodating.. During our trip, one of my friend got sick for couple days so she need to rest at the hotel and middle age man hotel staff keep monitoring and took care my friend while we were away by helping order and provide food from the restaurant in the same management of SEA htl, providing chinese medicines for 2 days, and suggest us for medical center nearby and Raffles Hospital for evening emergency (We didn't know his name, But thank you so much Mr....). And the other little touch from house keeping lady, my friend didn't used the stiff bed cover so she folded and put it on the floor.. The next day, when we back to the room her bed was cover with extra double sheets so she didn't feel chill during the night (what a nice touch).. This is the Big Plus of hospitality and service that we found from this hotel.

I will definitely stay here again.. Recommended for traveling with Family and friends. Their family room is only SGD 160 for 4 adults.

Thank you SEA hotel!!!

Room Tip: room facing the kwam im temple is the best and quieter.. The room facing the front building will be...

In what has become an increasingly expensive part of the world when it comes to accommodation, the South East Asia Hotel in Singapore, which was established in 1953, has, for many years, been a place to stay if you are looking for something that bridges the gap between the super-budget out-of-town places and the highly priced chain hotels.
The South East Asia Hotel (often abbreviated as SEA Hotel) still has things going for it: a terrific down-town location near Bugis Junction (a major shopping hub) and Bugis MRT rail station, and facing onto a traffic-free mall. As well, there are numerous eateries nearby, and easy access to some of Singapore's tourist attractions.
However, theere is no escaping that the SEA Hotel is looking rather tired these days, and it is no longer much of a bargain unless you are a family of four. In 2012, the 'Single'/Twin/Double rooms were SGD100 (standard) and SGD120 ('Superior'). This year, I booked a 'Superior' room, but there wasn't much that was superior about it. Admittedly, there is a bit of the 'luck-of-the-draw' about it, as some of the rooms have a reasonable outlook, either onto the aforementioned mall, or a neighbouring temple. My room looked out onto a grey concrete-rendered wall about 3 metres across from the window. The strips of wafer-thin carpet no longer joined, and were stained in places. The completely bare walls needed a paint. There is no shower curtain or screen in the bathroom, so you have a wet floor for a few hours after a shower. I appreciate that the lack of a screen is a common arrangement in many Asian hotels, but elsewhere such hotels don't usually charge the sort of tariffs that apply at the South East Asia.
Whilst the bed was comfortable, the sheets were past their use-by date, having no doubt been through the washing washine a few too many times. And as no blankets are provided, you need to use the bed cover. I found the latter essential, as the air-conditioning, whilst very efficient (as in all Singapore hotels in which I have stayed), couldn't be modified. The alternative to this arrangement was also environmentally harmful: leave the air-conditioner on and open the window.
What is called a 'Continental' breakfast comprising juice, a piece of half-toasted white bread and tea/coffee is included in the tariff. if you take the breakfast, go for the Asian option, or purchase your own supplies of milk, yoghurt and wholemeal bread from the shop around the corner.
So what were the extras to make this a 'Superior' room? My guess was the hot-water jug, the small fridge, and the flat-screen television - all of which were appreciated.
I would like to be writing a more positive report, because the SEA Hotel has filled, and could still fill, a gap in the market, given a little more care on the part of the owners. A coat of paint on the interior walls every so often, and new carpet and sheets are standard maintenance issues for any accommodation business. The trouble appears to be that the SEA gets business regardless, thanks to its great location.
On a positive note, the cleaning staff do a valiant job in keeping everything very clean.

Husband & I with his sister as a family stayed for 4 nights for vacation. We booked the triple room on line with Ms. Choo priced SGD$130.00 included tasty breakfast. Triple room was big with 3 single beds very comfortable, big clean bathroom with shower but without shower curtain; room had fan/air condition; furniture were dated but clean room and very equipped. The hotel was in excellent location just few blocks away from MRT Bugis, their restaurant offer tasty vegetable dishes, best offer for vegetarian. Food court just accross the street, Hainanese chicken with rice + soup + vegetable as set meal only costs SGD$3.50; department store is around the corner open till 9:00pm. Chinese herb cooling tea drink just next door and fruits stand is few blocks away.

Hotel in Singapore is very expenses, as of today I am still unable to find any hotels has better offer with resonable & affordable price; nice clean comfortable room in excellent location than South East Asia hotel.

We are going to stay with South East Aisa hotel in November/2012 again. We look forward to stay in their clean comfortable room + their tasty breakfast. 100% plus recommended.

Room Tip: Ask room located @ the back more quiet but rooms will be facing the side wall.
