Location is in the red light district. Not a problem as we did not feel unsafe and they do NOT tout for buisness, there are pleanty of cheap food in the area. The train station is 5-10 min walk to get into the amazing city.

The rooms are small but had all we needed and was clean and well maintained.

The room is quite small but still alright for couple like us just to have rest after day trip. There is no cupboard for you to hang the dirty clothes. There is no minibar provided too. What they provide are two toothbrushes, a comb, two bottles of water mineral, drinks, hair dryer, two towels. There is no newspapers provided. There are quite a number of places for you to have your meal nearby. But, if you are having early breakfast, nearby shops open kind of late. When you are leaving the hotel for your visiting around Singapore, the staff there will ask you to put the key at the counter. One thing I don't like is that, when you ask for a key, they will directly give the key without asking or checking or confirm whether you are really the one who stay in the room or not.

Room tip: If you are travelling with small kids, this area seem not so suitable. For girls, becareful when passing around the area from MRT station to the hotel as I can see there is very less girls walking around at night. The location from hotel to the nearest MRT station (Aljunied) is still kind of far which you have to walk for at least 10 minutes. Visit around in Singapore is kind of nice and convenience as all kind of transport is available. During our visit to the Marina Bay, remember to go for early lunch or dinner as the food court is always full of people. We have been waiting and waiting for the seat to take our dinner. Have been waiting and walking around for at least half an hour to search for seat although we are so hungry.

We booked through agoda.com.au which kept the price down. Good value for money. Reception staff were quite helpful, even printing out our flight booking and future hotel reservations for us. Air con was not cold enough. Room was compact but can't complain for the money. Reasonably quiet in the rooms higher up.

Room tip: Go for a room on the 6th floor if possible - windows and quiet.

The visit on 28th March 2012 to this hotel was unfortunately a horrible experiece. I am certain that once you are aware of what transpired, you will be as appalled as I am.

Here's what happened:
We are a group of 8 locals planning to visit our relatives from Guangzhou, China who happened to be in Singapore for holiday. As soon as we reached the hotel lobby, we request this male, skinny, wearing specs and a white long sleeve shirt at the stationed at the recept counter to help call of our relative in room 315. The immediate response from him was unfriendly and hostile attitude, demanding whether our relative was a male or a female. Nevertheless, we continued to provide the necessary information even with such attitude as we are looking forward to see our relatives (which occupies three rooms)

Soon after, my relative came down to the hotel lobby and wanted to bring us up to their hotel rooms for some catch up. However, we were stopped by the same rude, unfriendly, hostile, male counter staff, again with the uncalled-for attitude demanding that he cannot allow so many of us up to the room, and only one of us is allowed. Please note that we've made it clear to him that we just want to have some catching up session and will leave in a short while and we are NOT staying for the night. Luckily, at the same instance, another male staff, dressed in long sleeve purple shirt behind this rude and unfriendly counter staff comply to our request.

Upon leaving the hotel, within half an hour, the same rude, unfriendly and hostile male counter staff glared at us all the way till we went out of the hotel lobby.

The whole incident totally ruined our happy and excited mood being able to catch up with our relatives. Such rude, hostile and unfriendly attitude from any service industry staff is totally unacceptable, especially so for a hotel staff, where it not only reflect badly on the hotel as well as the country!

This bad incident had really left a very bad inpression on all of us as well as our relatives. As you can imagine, the experience fell far short of our expectations -- considering the friendly image which the hotel protrayed.

I am not certain at this time if I will ever feel comfortable returning to the establishment.

Just came back from visiting my relative from Guangzhou, who was a room guest at hotel 81 palace. the service at the reception was absolutely terrible! we had requested reception to call our relative in a particular and was met with absolutely hostile and condescending questions, such as name, exact part of China that my relative was from, gender and so on. Reception staff also tried to restrict the number of visiting guests from going to the hotel room and demanded for our IDs, which we refused to be bullied into giving. Upon exit of the hotel after 30 mins, the same rude and hostile reception staff glared and stared at us. This awful, sub standard service left a terrible impression on our Chinese relative and ourselves, local Singaporeans.I am ashamed to see such terrible service of our own country.Even for a budget hotel, such sub standard, slipshod level of service in unacceptable.

Room tip: try the hotel 81 just across the street from hotel 81 palace, at least the reception staff were much more friendly
