“Decent Food at Reasonable Prices”
Reviewed October 8, 2013 via mobile

We have been here to eat a couple of times, and found the food to be quite good and the prices reasonable. We would recommend the spring rolls and fish soap as we found them to be pretty good. The place is typically crowded during lunch and dinner times, so it is advisable to avoid these peak hours if you don't want to wait. Service is nothing to shout about and definitely can be improved. Overall a good place to have decent Vietnamese food at reasonable prices.

“Poor service, bad food”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

After being in Singapore for 6 weeks, I craved for Vietnamese food. A guy from work recommended this restaurant. Sure, I ordered beef noodle. crab noodle, Hue noodle and rice with pork chop. All the noodle dishes tasted bad and the beef noodle did not even look like beef noodle let alone tasted like one!
Bottom line: the dishes I tried, did not taste/look authentic! Maybe it caters toward locals that's why they alter the taste to suit the local palates!
Service: I walked into the restaurant without any staff members approaching me or smile, or welcoming or showing me where to sit or even offer to help with anything! I had to approach the counter to ask if I could order!
Place looked kind of dirty when I was there!
So, I am not coming back here to spend my money!

“Maybe I haven't got the Vietnamese tastebud”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

We made a trip to Long Phung over the weekend and got there at 1pm, where we were third in line. We were seated in around 10 minutes. We ordered the beef pho, the beef and pork noodle, the rice rolls and garlic cockles.

Both the noodles had broth that packed a punch while steaming hot, but as soon as the broths started to cool down, the taste quickly deteriorated into a sugary soup that was barely edible. The broths are broadly flavoured, which is a plus plus for heartiness, but way too much sugar. The meat slices were obviously from frozen meat and lacked any beefy taste.

The rice rolls were pretty horrible. They seem to be mass-made and left outside to sit, and the rice roll skin was chewy and hard.

The garlic cockles were alright, the cockles were fresh but the cooking style is pretty rough. There is no balance of flavours except a liberal dash of sugar in everything, including the garlic cockles.

The prices are acceptable, at $6/$6.50 for the noodles.

“The Best Vietnamese Restaurant in Singapore”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

It is a small place located in the Red-Light district of Joo Chiat Road, where lots of the Vietnamese 'business girls' dine here. There are many other Vietnamese eateries in the same area, but this one at No 159 is the best. The restaurant is very popular among the locals, to get a seat you have to avoid the peak lunch (12.00 to 1.00 noon) and dinner (6 to 7 pm) hours. The special beef rice noodle, grilled quail, chicken wing and spring roll are the must-try items. Don't forget to order a cup of strong Vietnamese coffee to finish it off. A satisfying meal will cost you less then S$15 per head. PS there's no air conditional and the restaurant is always crowded, so wear something casual and sensible. Enjoy!
